just started the game and already done with it.

A few tips.

  • Map location markers: Let people know where they are "Geffen map 4" is hardly informative
  • OP mobs: After finally finding a quest I could reasonably manage I get 1 shot by a grossly overpowered mob, even worse it chases me around until it kills me. Might wanna fix that,
  • Lack of story guidance: After becoming a merchant, I was basically left, no idea where to go or what to do. totally lost.

Game had a cute appearance but not overly attention holding. Just thought I'd add a few suggestions. Thanks.

RO is an oldschool MMORPG. Unlike the newer MMORPGs like WoW or RO2, the environment is an open world sandbox where you can go wherever and do whatever you please; you need to go out of your way to find quests and there is no overarching "main questline". It's your responsibility to figure out what you want to do in RO, if you don't like that then RO simply wasn't the game for you.

You are correct, it is not new player friendly. It's pretty much a necessity to be doing your own research from minute 1 to have a shot at getting anywhere. Unfortunate, but the game is over a decade old and there's very little resources being poured into it for improvement.

if you just started the game, you should try to learn more about it.
A few tips.

  • Map location markers: I want to let you know that there is a navigation system in the game. It is very informative.
  • OP mobs: Before receiving a hunting quest, try to navi the mob. It will state its level. General tip, red name = higher level than you (15+ level difference). Pink name= still higher, but in 15 level difference. White name = almost same level. Gray name = lower level than you. Most high level mob is aggressive. Might want to learn that.
  • Lack of story guidance: After changing into your first class, you are free to roam the RO world. Do whatever you like. totally free.

There is more to this game than its cute appearance, you just need to give it a bit of your attention and learn about them. Just thought I'd give you a few suggestion. Thanks.

i thought loki was even more newbie friendly than renewal, with the whole asgard village thing, and like perma janeway. if you couldn't cut it there, then forget about renewal

Eden group was actually really newbie friendly when I came back to RO after not playing for many years. I think Eden group guides you more with leveling quest boards + free gear, so long as you are willing to find the npcs which might be a small put off in the current cluster -_- (Ygg was more empty and easier to see all of them). Forgot to mention the Eden npc was marked on the minimap and was hard to miss the "New quest!" text hovering over her.

Asgard is really easy as well, but I guess if people don't click around on the npcs they miss it.

That's just the way this game is. You have to look up everything online. After maybe 7 years of not playing the new Eden group quests and bounties really feel like being spoiled though you still have to do a lot of your own footwork. The navigation system is really good as long as the NPC or place you're looking for is actually listed which sometimes it isn't.

I just returned to playing RO1 last year and I would say that the Eden Group gave me a sense of direction on what I will do. :p_idea:

I started to party and form camaraderie with my co-gamers. Then, I became a part of a community within a town and eventually joined a guild.

For me, its the player who would really adjust with the game (the environment) not the vice versa. Just like in real life, I guess  :p_laugh:

As kingarthur6687 said, there is no main story questline to guide you where to go or what to do next.

This game is old and is different from newer MMORPG generation which guides you for almost everything.
