Hi there I am new here but have played the game multiple times before. I have searched a lot for a clear explaination how skill damage works but could never find anything or figure it out myself.

I did some testing and research myself with Shootdown(3) and Arrow Shower(2)

from the in-game skill discription Shootdown(3) shoots out 3 volleys of 5 arrows and around 12% per arrow which is a total of 180% +55

however Arrow Shower does 8 hits and 37.5% each hit which is a total of 300% +34

But Shootdown does A LOT more damage then Arrow Shower against mobs and bosses.

Am I missing something in the calculation of skill damage%? Does the flat damage number added after the damage% also count each hit?

Arrow Shower is a weird skill. It registers the entire skill's damage as a single hit. Then splits that hit into 8, small but equal damage, hits and flinches. Another example of this type of skill is I'm gone bear in the Gladiator tree.

however Arrow Shower does 8 hits and 37.5% each hit which is a total of 196% +34

But Shootdown does A LOT more damage then Arrow Shower against mobs and bosses.

Am I missing something in the calculation of skill damage%? Does the flat damage number added after the damage% also count each hit?

Some skills calculate damage off Total Attack(Attack+ Weapon Base+Enchant) others only go off Base attack(Attack+ Weapon Base) and how many times they hit.

In the case of shootdown each of the 15 arrows is an individual attack and it calculated off Total Attack as  for  arrow shower it's all 1 attack and calculated off Base Attack.

So... if all the hits connect with Shootdown(3) it does 12%*15 = 180% BUT Arrow Shower(2) only 37.5% and that damage is split between 8 hits?

EDIT: I found out what the calculation problem was.

The calculation for Shootdown works something like:           baseATK + (baseATK * 12%) * 15 (the amount of hits) + Weapon Max DMG + Max ATK

Where the calculation for Arrow Shower is something like:   baseATK + (baseATK * (37.5% * 8)) + Weapon Max DMG + Max ATK

I seem to get slightly higher calculated numbers then in-game results. But I guess defense from mobs/ bosses also reduce some of the damage dealt

... any explanation how you come up with this sort of numbers ? Arrow shower, as far as I recall, worked very well as (%ATK x ATK) + flat damage on each hit.

And, hum. This looks... horribly twisted.

I took the forumula from the wiki: http://ds.irowiki.org/wiki/Stats

Not sure if I am doing this correct,

Let's take for example a ATK of 1000

Shootdown(3) takes for each arrow the ATK stat and it does 15 hits max(1000 x 12% + 1000 x 15) which would be a damage of 16800 . However Arrow Shower(2) does a combined skill damage of 300% which has been split in 8 hits of 37.5% of your ATK stat. (1000 x  300%) which can also be seen as (1000 x (0.375 x 8)) which is 3000 damage. If you do the same calculation for Shootdown with Arrow Shower the move would deal 20625 damage which is way too high for it. And if the 37.5% is the summarized damage of Arrow Shower it would be too low with a damage of 1375.

Then there is also the thing Storm brought up about some skills being calculated of Total ATK and base ATK

I hope this clears up some things.

Here's another few things to take into account:

1.)Do you crit when you use either skill?
Shootdown is registered as numerous hits, each with their own chance to crit. Arrow shower is registered as 1 single hit. So if it crits, all hits are displayed as a crit.

2.)What weapon are you using?
What level, enchant/grade, min/max attack, any element damage?

3.)For crits, what is your critical damage?

As far as I can tell, there isn't any formula to calculate skill damage on the wiki... Or maybe I'm just blind.
