Hey guys, I recently started playing again and was hoping for some help getting to know sorcerer skills better. Essentially, which skills are worthwhile or considered useless. With that in mind, here are my goals.

PVM

MVP

I have no interest in PVP or WoE.

In terms of gear, I have reasonably good gear (No MVPS or Gods). I plan on reaching 100% variable cast time reduction with gears.

With that in mind, here are some questions I'm hoping to get answered. I also have some comments for some of them. Please let me know if that is still applicable to today's RO. A lot has changed since I last played.

1. With 100% var. cast time reductions in gear, is dex still necessary?  I know temporal dex boots are nice for the .5 fixed reduction, but for me, I am wondering if getting more of the other stats would work much better. For instance, 120 int, 100 vit, 70+ luk, and then agi for fleeing stuff(reduced cast animation as well). It'd help keep me alive especially with blinding mist.

2. Is Earth's Grave useful for pvm and mvp?

3. Is Diamond Dust useful for pvm and mvp?

4. Do sorces generally max Call Ventus? I've seen some skill builds only get lvl 2.

5. Is Electric/Fire Walk useful?

6. Is Firewall still nice to have on a sorc?

7. Does increase sp recovery effect how much sp items give you sp? I was considering getting firewall and safety wall, but that'd mean getting less on sp recovery.

8. Is Killing Cloud or Poison Burst useful for pvm or mvp?

9. Do sorces ever get the elemental insignia? I've nvr seen a sorc use one.

10. Is Varetyr Spear worth maxing?

11. How good is Striking? Is this a skill I should consider getting just for the party buff?

I think that's all for now. I know it's a lot of questions, just new to sorc and want to make something decent and enjoyable to party with.

P.S. If anyone has a pvm/mvp skill build on hand, I'd love to see it, just to get a sense of what sorces tend to get skill wise.

Thanks again and happy huntings!

1. yes. 120 dex for GH dex boots (supporting in bio4 [ME] is easier to cast.

2. Yes. part of your spell cycle

3. Yes. part of your spell cycle

4. lvl 2 is all you need

5. no

6. debatable, mainly for procing runaway magic, but i prefer killing cloud

7. yes, but you have indulge.

8. Killing cloud (i have up to level 4) i don't recommend poison burst

9. i use water insig a lot of mvping because you can pump wind damage the most. however insignias mean you need to be stationary.

10. yes. Part of your spell cycle.

11. i can get over 150k damage with a varytr spear with full setup (insig, striking, 2x elvira, tikabalang,)

this is my recommendation

Hi guys, sorry OP for hi-jacking this topic, I just finished the sorc quest and now trying to get my first few skills. I know PW should be the priority but what would be the next? Purely PVM.

Is it recommended to rush ventus for the fixed cast time decrease or get the other offensive spells (DD, VS, EG)? also which spells would be best for solo leveling among those 3. I pretty much decided on the final skill build but i have no idea what would be the optimum skill progression for a smooth solo leveling.

Also can you suggest which gear I should aim to acquire. I mainly used eden gears and currently have +4 TSOD, Orleans set except for necklace, variant shoes and immune nid garb. I'm in Thor by the way with just about 100M saved.

No, get your other spells first. I do diamond dust, vartyr spear then earth grave. No point in getting ventus if youre just going to wait for the global cooldown

I always go pwave>diamond dust>earth grave> ventus 1

Its more a personal preference, also depends if you go straight to mid or stay in low ti acumulating job lvls

I do stay in low ti for a bit though, just because low TI on sorc is stupidily easy

Thanks a lot. I made myself a kaahi slave to ease up my leveling. With kaahi, what would be the recommended level to wear temp int boots? I got a cheap slotted one and I'm thinking to rush 120 int for the bonus. Will kaahi be able to keep my sorc alive even with  the slow cast and low vit?

Sorcs are powerful in that they have a skill rotation that allows maximum DPS without stopping when mobbing:

Varetyr Spear > Psychic Wave > Varetyr Spear > Diamond Dust > Varetyr Spear > Earth Grave > rinse repeat

You may also opt to get the land buffs (volcano, deluge and Whirlwind) to level 5 to increase the damage of the spells of the element, it may seem impractical at first but with the Elemental Land buff status depending on the duration of the first land buff you cast, you can swap between land buffs and walk around placing them without incuring any more gemstone cost until the buff status ends (magnetic earth is an exception) for more variety besides waiting on an insignia's cooldown (and covers a wider area, although there is a 30% damage difference compared to insignia's).
