All client edits done by 3rd parties should be illegal.

No distinction. Only punishment.

Putting aside the issue of whether all third party programs or graphical edits are wrong etc, looking perspectively at gray world doesn't give me the impression that it's a cheat at all.

How is it cheaty when you can off effects and only see characters only as well? Gray world just makes your RO dull, with only black and white. Maybe some people concentrate better without colours. if colour distraction is an unfair advantage, I don't know what to say. Might as well go dye all your characters in all weird colors so you can be called a cheater by other players.

It lets you see characters behind walls/terrain/obstacles that you normally would not be able to at that angle.

Pretty soon WoE will consist of having to log onto a special client that detects use of third party cheats similar to what they do in E-Sports leagues ect.

Besides a limited schedule, things like RCX/Autopotting/Auto blah blah blah and seeing it firsthand is why I stopped WoE... Which in turn reduced the amount I play, and loses money for WP.... I used to buy WPE every month, now WP is lucky if I log on once a month.

If you thought it just turns the screen into grayscale, you're mistaken :v

It completely wipes out all terrain and every single sprite/texture/what have you, except characters, NPCs, Mounts, Pets. The missing terrain is replaced my a map of walkable cells, which is displayed as gray tiles.

If it's possible to do here on iRO, then it would definitely be great.

imo it's a really dumb edit that gives an advantage and shouldn't be legal.

I think it should be considered illegal. Obviously the only way it can be enforced is if the user posts images or video of themselves using it. If content producers post videos of themselves using GRF edits they are effectively encouraging other people to use them too. Believe it or not, some people are not aware they exist or how to get them yet. So why allow people to encourage that sort of thing?

Obviously GRF edits can be more than QOL, and the amount of skill needed to do more malicious edits is not much higher than simple sprite edits. By encouraging / allowing people to modify the grf the game becomes a hack race. Small advantages that have already been discussed will add up as more and more guild members use it.

Warp Portal may not be able to prevent people from using grf edits, but it should at least be punishable to publicize it.

Edit: Not to mention using gray map cuts the soul out of the game. That entire hack-world sucks the life right out of the game in the name of some ultimately pointless competition.

You reminded me of that time (last year I think?) when some big-namer in CS:GO's professional scene used a see-through-walls aimbot. Just lelwat.

You know whats even more lolwat? nearly every second or third topic in the community chat is started by Xellie, not that I have a problem with it.

Coincidentally any Topic thats started by Xellie, you would find at least one post by my Waifu Cinnamod :lv:  , which usually then leads me to getting warned that my posts are either too offensive or too erotic. Cinnamod is just too tsuntsun with me sometimes :waddle:

Back on topic, has any CM or GM looked at this topic yet? If so what is the verdict?

There's no way to police gray maps. Making it illegal is not gonna do anything.

There's no way to police a lot of things that are and should remain illegal. It does prevent it from becoming more widespread and acceptable, when people aren't posting their woe videos with it everywhere and people think its ok to do.

Has been said many times already, but here we go again. Making it illegal will stop people from uploading videos of it, hence reducing circulation of it and preventing the sort of "encouraging" effect that these videos have due to viewers having some form of respect/admiration for their vloggers.

Also I'm hoping there is still some trace of "legalism" left in the RO society, as in at least a few people will hold back from doing something because it has been deemed by the community and the authorities as something unwanted, harmful, and illegal.

So yeah, it's gonna do plenty. And the point of laws isn't limited to the practical application/enforcement, it has a certain aspect of stating what we are and aren't okay with, and what is expected of a member of the community, whether or not it is something which can be policed.

In theory that might have some merit.

Making it illegal,it is just gonna be a tool to be used to piss people off when they get called out but nothing can be done more than anything else. Let the accusations begin.

OK, so we know it can be done and we know that it gives an unfair advantage for those "few" who like to hide behind walls. We all so know that it can't be stopped. I personally think that anyone giving the excuse that "they can see me behind a wall" has a problem. When I WoE, It is not about hiding behind walls. It is about working with a group of people to attack another group of people. If I was a person that A: knew that people use grey map and B: it could not be stopped or traced, I would not be making topics like this on the forums because they are useless. Instead, I would A:changed the way I play by not relying on hiding behind walls and B: encourage it to be legal so that everyone could be on the same playing field. This topic is working against itself by wanting to make it illegal so that people that use it still have the unfair advantage. That to me is just absurd. I want my tool for toggling effects on or off individually to be supported by the community and this will never happen if we all don't understand that these type of edits and tools should be legal  and available to everyone. This makes everyone on the same playing field and we don't ever have to see topics about these types of things again. Instead, the correct route would be to report a person for illegal activity that is provable.

Do not sweep this under the rug. Old players have been using this for years & will continue to do so giving themselves a huge advantage vs new players / players with default client / grf. I personally do not use greyworld or any client / grf edits (i know others have an advantage over me, sadly because of this. Make RO great again!

What would happen when so-called elitists "cheaters" who prevent new players from joining the game leave the game themselves ... lmfao /cry
