Hey hey guys!
I've been waiting for Metal Assault for 4 years, since March, 31, 2012..
I am so freaking happy, but I'm a little sad with a thing...
I just love to play pvp and show people my star grades, etc, also, i don't think anyone should just use any weapon at level 1, lel..

Is someone missing it too? It was better as before :(

I assume that everything you know, love and remember about classic Metal Assault that seems to be missing.

Is probably due to this being a Soft Launch/Open Beta

I'm sure it'll be back when it Fully/Officially Launches

I seriously don't understand why it was removed.

Okay, balance reasons, but there's nothing stopping a high level player from twinking out a low level alt now and pubstomping, unlike before.

Granted, gear never really made too much of a difference, but at least there were limitations before.

It was also nice to track your progression with a weapon category and your investment into it. I used to pride myself on my shotgun kills, now I'm just like "it wouldn't of made a difference if I just used a Rifle".

Skills being normalized like this I can sort of understand, but it felt like I went into the game with an already fully-fleshed out character that just needed to be levelled up.

I hate to ask, but being new to Metal Assault, I'm not sure what you're referring to and I would very much like to understand, so I can relay or question the development regarding it.

Are you saying that the skill levels used to all start at 1, and could level or something else?

What is the "PvP Grade" and I had wondered about the gun licenses myself. How did this use to work?

Gun license is a way to be able to equip more powerful weapons. If you achieve getting the strongest gun in the game, you require to get the license to use it by farming up kills. The amount kills you would need was unbearable. Once someone farms up enough licenses to equip that powerful gun, he can continue to dominate and destroy everyone on the server. Even if we may own the same gun, we would have to farm as many license points as he did.

This made license points insanely retarded and redundant. If you were new to the game, and saved up all of your money to get that gun, it doesn't matter. You will be smashed very hard until you sink a year of your life into the game to being able to equip such gun.

License points has been removed and thank goodness, it was a cancer mechanic.

PVP grade is a way to visualize whose the better players by giving them a shiny gold star beside their name. It'll increase or decrease depending how well they do in matches. It's fine to be included but doesn't really show the true nature of their skill.

To my knowledge, skills also started at lv1, I don't remember how they were upgraded.

I can see why this was changed, like licenses it was kind of unfair to new players. It only really offered a miniscule form of progression anyway.

Licenses was its own can of worms because I don't believe PVE kills did anything to raise them, which would have been completely unfair to someone who doesn't PVP.

Still, it feels kind of weird to see these two systems defunct, but to still be receiving "License up" messages for kills with things like grenades and vehicles.

It'd be interesting if they could be retooled in the future to be better systems, but I actually understand why it was changed now after some thought.

In concept, the license idea sounds like it was to give something to work for and achieve, but in the end left new players behind in skill and created an unfair playing field. While I'm unsure this was intentionally set to no longer be part of game play, or not. I can still ask for a definitive answer regarding it so we can all be informed behind it. If it's felt to be better this way, we can leave it, if not, we can ask to have it return or see if there's some other compromise to come to.

The License Up messages I always thought was my character leveling. :) am I wrong?

Sorry to say, but yes lol.

They used to appear for gun kills as well (back during Aeria days when gun licenses were still a thing), but now they always appear anytime you kill someone with a vehicle or hand grenade. Likely not intentional and probably related to the defunct license page under our player information.

I was surprised about it too, albeit for different reasons. "Did they make it easier to grind licenses?" "Oh, no, its just gone now"

Thanks Elsw, I'll have to ask about those messages then and see what's up with that. It gives a bit of a false impression that something happened, if in fact nothing did.

Yes, actually. I mentioned it in one of our recent streams, but the PvP Grades & Gun Licenses were intentionally taken out from game play. No reason beyond that was given, so if you'd like to hear more of why I can ask, but that's pretty much what the dev team gave me in response to the question.

As far as the "License Up" display, I'm going to ask them if its necessary at this point or if it could/should be disabled as well.

I know I'm late to the party regarding gun licenses and pvp grade but thought I'd add my 2cents

PVP Grade: Didn't like it and glad its not here. Why? Because before, most people used to pride themselves on having the pvp grade star next to their name, to show off how good they were in pvp. It became a constant pride thing where players weren't playing for fun, but would purposely work towards getting more stars, getting a bunch of kills ie 10-0, rage quit, join another game, end game with 2-0 (all purely camping and cheap tactics) then have their KD +12-0. Took the fun out of playing against them.
Camping and cheap tactics is different when their purpose was different, ie annoying people, thats how they play vs getting higher pvp grade
Which I might add, love the deserter feature- rage quit if u will
Also this prevented 1v1's because people would see ur grade then just leave, being afraid of getting bodied

Gun license: i feel we need back. What was it? For every kill u get in pvp u earned license points. With those license points, u add them to your weapon license of any weapon type u choose, ie using any gun in pvp, wherewith at the end you've earned a total of 1,000 license points for example. Using those LP, u level up your license by investing 200points into your rifle license to get from say, level 1 to level 2. As a gradual process to reach level 3 rifle license you'd need to put in 400points in the rifle license, from which I'd have a remaining 400LP to choose whether to level up my sniper license or another weapon license, etc

In order to use a higher rated weapon, you'd need to have the right license level for the right weapon. Ie you need to have level 100 rifle license to use LCP (OP Rifle)

By taking this away, the game is allowing players of any skill level or exp level, to use OP weapons, as long as theyve acquired it through farming boxes, spending real $$, etc

After farming for said weapon, part of the fun was getting enough license points to use the weapon. Which made it more rewarding to use it. Now, its as easy as spending real money to buy it and then just using an OP weapon

In the old MA, grinding for LP was a pain in the a. But it was rewarding: farming for the weapon, farming to use weapon, enjoy fruits of labor. Doesnt have to be as hard as it was before but surely a feature to have?
Any player could farm for the weapons, create a brand new character with OP weapons and pubstomp in newbie lobbies. That prevents new players getting into pvp and eventually into the game.

Which brings me to my next topic: newbie lobbies. Is this gonna be up at launch? Hate jumping into a match only to find 5 pro players vs 2 newbies who dont know what theyre doing. Give them their own lobby where experienced players cant get into and vice versa (unless of course exp players have a new alt...cant stop that)

TLDR: dont need pvp grade. License points we should have back. Give newbies their own area to pvp
