Current WIP:

Do I need to add Marty trying to sneak a peek in the background?  A wanderer's bathroom would probably not be complete without your local pervert.

 

Trying to work on perspective.  Sorta harder than I thought.

What are people's preferences on line vs lineless artstyles?  Do people actually want to see the lines in artwork?

It depends on the art style. Some look better without it, some look better with it.

I've been experimenting with lines and such.  I just don't understand the benefits to using lines to display edges when you can just create edges with shadows and perspective.

If lineless is your style, and you are happy with it, then that's good.  Of course, experimenting outside of what you usually do is also good.

For me, having the lines fits the overall image I want, so I use them.  I have a 2D direction in my art and not really realistic, but it might be more realistic to not use bold lines so much.  I think style is about what steps you take to reach that final result you want.

 

However, I have a wip right now that is mostly lineless but I'm not very happy with it, for many reasons.

Lines definitely make things so much easier to represent edges and symbolize detail.  I'm considering transitioning into a more anime-esque style, anime style faces are so much easier to draw without needing to fight the uncanny valley.

You could experiment with the anime style, then bring in skills you've learned from the realistic style.  There's much to learn from a variety rather than only using one.   The two styles can compliment each other well with practice, like Kon Satoshi and Asano Inio's work.

Someone asked me earlier if I wanted to do a commission or something.   I think I need a lot more practice before I feel confident enough to do that.

I didn't like how flat the image looked so I plan on scrapping the whole thing and redoing it.  I kind of liked the technical aspect of a 2 point focal point so its something I totally want to try again.  Gonna study a bit more on perspective before I redo it.
