I just started playing Ragnarok with a friend and, as he doesn't have much experience with the thief class, I decided to make a post here so I could get some information about the future of my character.

 

1. My goal would be reaching a point where I could PvM well with my character (I would prefer using Katars to be honest, just because of the visuals!) . Are DD better than katars considering that?

 

2. Knowing question 1, what would be the best stat/skill build I could follow to reach that goal?

As a starting player you most definitely want to go the Katar route. GX are really good for all types of instances, so with this characer you will be making millions with just starting equips.

 

As an Assassin Cross you could pick up a +7 sword and then Meteor Assault everything with it. Then as a GX you can pick up a +4 Krishna with handcuff or even a 3x Hunter fly Jur until you are level 120, at that time, run Ghost Palace a few times until you can make your own Thanatos Katar. This katar is the best in game Katar at the moment. Pair the Thanatos with a +9 Rideword Hat, and you will be set until 175.

 

From there you can run Hazy Forest, Ghost Palace, OGH. Sell the loots or create items with that and you can be making really good money.

 

In a week around, 200m-300m doing this.

 

as for stats, I personally enjoy 100 STR, 120 AGI, 90 VIT, 90 DEX, 90 LUK or 120 STR, 120 AGI, 90 VIT, 90 DEX, 34-36 LUK.

 

Hopefully that helps man

 

EDIT: If you plan to make just one GX, You might want to consider job changing at job 42 of Assassin Cross so that you can switched to DD Crit eventually.

Why change at level 42, and why would you advise me changing to DD Crit instead of staying a Katar GX?

For a DD Crit GX, if you have Double Attack, it will mess with your crits,reducing yor dmg.  At job 42, you get the max amount of skill points necessary needed to get all of your thief skills BUT Double Attack.

 

Idk why he recommended that you do a DD Crit first, but know this: they cost alot of $$$ compared to a Katar GX.

 

Honestly, If this is your 1st character and you want a PvM GX: Go Katar. Rolling Cutter with HP/SP leech gears are pretty good.

 

(When you say a PVM GX, does this mean you dont intend on going after MVPs? Rather, you want a GX that can just farm regular monsters easily?)

the only thing you would skip out on with 42 job points if you decide not to change to DD crit would be lvl 2 hide instead of lvl 10. hide becomes obsolete when you cloaking/cloaking exceed. it might be good just to leave it open as an option, unless you wouldn't mind making another GX
