How about seasonal servers? Not only would that attract new and old players but it would also give you a chance to try out how and if a server reset would work? There could even be some sort of point system or ranking for the participating guilds which could then give them some special items on the regular Classic server after the season ends. Is that something you could look into? I mean there's p-servers running servers with comparable populations to iRo so please don't tell me you don't have enough server power to host a Season Server? We HAVE to do something to attract players and I think Season is a good way to cater to both sides.

What about adding an extreme low level PvP? For first jobs and expanded, maybe base level 10 and job level 11 at most? The rewards could be tokens that can be traded for end game stuff. All participants get some but the winners could get more.

Super powerful items and consumables could still be used but some of them would be limited by the level restriction. It also might encourage more beginner weapon upgrading since refining the weak equipment is somewhat within reach for an average player.

turn in proposal: "boosting ti's"

ti's on maps that offer for "x" kills you get a drop rate buff (whatever one gms think will work) ,if possible only usable on that map.
ti's giving alternate rewards such as hugle coins or something other than exp, so 99/70 players can be convinced to help younger buddys out with lvls.

other important idea,

add existing ti warps to the asguard npc. for example there are many warps on the two juno npcs we could duplicate. VARIETY!!!

list of maps that could use ti's

Amatsu Dungeon 3: Amatsu Underground Shrine   /no warp
Ayothaya Dungeon 2: Inside Ancient Shrine     /no warp
Robot Factory 2F                              /no warp
Lighthalzen Dungeon 2: Somatology Laboratory  /no warp (low base exp but high yeild job exp)
Moscovia Dungeon 3                            /no warp
Turtle Island 4: Turtle Palace                /warp?
Einbech Dungeon 2: Mine Dungeon               /warp
Toy Factory 2: Toy Monitoring Room            /warp

something special could be done with clocktower, glast hiem, and undersea tunnle. like a massive ti list. for an idea of glast him ill show an example:

TIER 1:

Arclouze           50
Gargoyle           50
Sting              50
Ghoul              50
Zombie             50
Abysmal Knight     50
Khalitzburg        50
Raydric Archer     50
Raydric            50
Whisper            50
Evil Druid         50
Skel Prisoner      50
Brilight           50
Sageworm           50
Marionette         50
Majoruros          50
Wind Ghost         50
Mimic              50
Carat              50
Wraith             50
Joker              50
Dark Frame         50
Nightmare          50
Rideword           50
Wanderer           50
Zombie Prisoner    50
Cramp              50
Phendark           50
Rybio              50
Injustice          50

TIER 2:

Hunter Fly         3
Dark Priest        3
Deviruchi          3
Owl Duke           3
Alice              3
Bloody Knight      1
Giant Whisper   1
Ogretooth          1
Mysteltainn        1
Zealotus           1
Baphomet           1
Dark Lord          1

you could do all of tier 1 for a sizable reward or alternately do all of both tiers for an even better reward. could even increase the numbers so its a real long term goal.

Classic Suggestions (or how to save Classic)

I'm going to make more suggestions today and I really hope that the GM's are reading this and will take this to heart. The Classic population has been dwindling down since forever and we are now at a point where the numbers on this server are so low that I get turned off from playing just by looking at the login screen.

One thing is more apparent than anything else: This server NEEDS more players AND WP doesn't seem to have the MEANS to attract NEW PLAYERS.

I will offer several solutions to counter this problem and I am willing to offer my help in making them possible too if neccessary.

I'm not saying I know the solution to every problem. I know that fixing the WoE situation for example is going to be a huge if not impossible task and I don't think I'm in the position to talk about that either. There's other people out there that might have better ideas how to deal with it.

I'm mostly going to talk about the PvM aspect of the game, as that aspect is responsible for the longevity of the game for the most part IMO.

Issue Nr. 1

Population

One of the biggest issues this server is facing right now is the ever dwindling population. You log into the game and even Prontera feels like a ghost town. New players have a hard if not impossible time finding groups and even though Janeway helps them get leveled up to some degree it does not really tackle the core problem, which is the server being empty. We need to attract more players to the server and since WP doesn't seem to have the budget to advertise this server I feel that this is a problem we, the community, have to tackle together.

Solution 1 (Invite a friend Events):

We need to implement events that reward players for attracting new players to the server. This could be done through Facebook, Twitter, Twitch, YouTube or other Social Media Sites. If the new players join the server and buy KP we could reward the people that brought them here in a way. The only problem I see here is that some people might make use of this for ALT accounts, so we would have to supervise this in one way or another. Maybe there's better solutions to this too so feel free to make suggestions. I'm just throwing ideas out here because I still have some hope left that this server won't die.

Also I'd be willing to sponsor rewards for this.

Solution 2 (Encourage more party play):

If possible you could increase the EXP bonus per additional party member to encourage parties instead of going around solo. You could also add NPC's similiar to the Janeway NPC or Hunting boards, but instead of EXP those NPC's will give out special rewards for a certain amount of points, be it Costumes, Consumables or other things. This could even be combined with the VIP Status to increase the amount of points they get per turn in. It would also be nice if some maps had Higher EXP Rates more often and not only during certain events. In general almost 99% of the parties nowadays take place on the Ice Titan map, which is a shame. In a perfect scenario there could be a new Spot Light map every day.

And now the part which everyone will hate me for suggesting it: Get rid of dual client.

Yes. I said that.

Don't get me wrong. I love using dual client myself. But if you think about it, it's another reason people don't play with each other. When I run around with my LK/Paladin I am actually better off using dual client to buff and warp myself. Then I just flywing around to kill mobs. The same applies to almost every other class. I'm not saying everyone does it but I know a lot of people who almost never play in groups due to dual client. Force people to play with each other again. It's an MMO and dual client is actually leading us away from just that.

Small suggestion:

Put more Gwings into your Gwing Boxes. Like WAY MORE. Gwings, like Flywings, are something you usually spam a lot. 50 Gwings is something I use up in a few minutes TOPS. If there was actually a substantial amount of Gwings in a Box I'd actually consider buying them to duo in places that I'd usually solo.

Issue Nr. 2

Oversaturation of Items and influx of Zeny

The economy is usually one of the most important aspects on a Ragnarok Server and mostly any other game for that matter. A huge influx of zeny coupled with too many items is usually a bad thing for new players and can quickly lead to frustration. A good way to combat this are smart zeny sinks and/or the removal of oversaturation.

Solution 1 (Let's get rid of some cards)

A lot of cards are absolutely worthless as of now. My suggestion would be to implement an NPC that trades different kind of items for a bunch of cards. Maybe even make tiers for the different type of cards to get better rewards. You could even include a Zeny fee to use this NPC in order to both get rid of oversaturation AND zeny at the same time. The rewards should be discussed as a community together.

This idea can be applied to other items of course such as Sl. Bucklers and all the other Slotted vanilla items.

Solution 2 (Stop flooding this game with Yggberries&Seeds goddamnit)

Not much to say. It happened so often now and you keep doing it. It's dumb. Yes. It's simply dumb. Stop it. Ugh.

Solution 3 (More turn ins)

Not much to say here either. You could simply use the existing turn in system and expand on it to get rid of some of the items mentioned earlier as well as adding a zeny fee to it. Rewards for these turn ins could be flat exp, costumes, or even higher exp rates / drop rates that are tied to certain maps.

Issue Nr. 3

Cheats/Bots/Hacks & Communication with GM's.

For this I'm not going to suggest any solutions since you seem to be working on this. However it would be nice if we could get more updates of what's going on behind the scenes. Just saying: "This is our plan" isn't something that will impress me or anyone else for that matter. We need to know what's going on, we need to know at least a rough schedule of when this will be dealt with. People love when they can look forward to something. The communication between the GM's and the Community in general needs to be more clear. A lot of people don't even know what Tiki Tuesday is and more often than not a lot of questions are left unanswered when you post Patch Notes.

Take your time in posting the Patch Notes to make sure you went over everything instead of posting the answer everyone is looking for somewhere on page 17 in thread 2379. No one is going to browse through all those pages to find the answer he/she is looking for. A lot of us are working too now, so we don't have time to search for every answer.

And if you don't have the time to post clear patchnotes then pick a community member to act as a representative and make him/her do it properly. I'm sure there's a lot of people that want to see this game/server succeed, so they probably wouldn't mind spending some time to do this for you.

Issue Nr. 4

The community

This last part goes out to each and every player out there. We all want this server to improve and this means EVERYONE needs to help in order to make this happen. Be it through suggestions, by attracting players to this server or simply by trying to reduce toxic behaviour towards others. We might be enemies during WoE but we don't have to carry any of this outside of WoE. There's so much hatred going on between some guilds on this server that it makes me wonder if I'm in kindergarden at times. We should all be old and mature enough to get over this -_- already. Use that energy you put into flaming on making iRo great (again?).

The end.

i disagree with a few points, however its input like this we need from everyone. and all sides should be able to express there opinions. specifically i like your idea about looking into party exp as a solution. i know i would have an easier time helping guildies lvl the "old fun way" if the exp split was more forgiving, or perhaps if a maxed lvl toon could dump there share (or the 50% not leaching to guild exp) back into the split. just some ideas.

These would be at the top of my wish list for Classic:

Market: It is not beyond saving but it is pricey for a novice player. An economist might have some ideas on how to even it out a little but aside from that, maybe another npc like the empty bottle seller could help? Something fair for newbies to generate zeny without relying on a large population.
I also think the more events and event items the better because they can be another avenue for making zeny.

More quick options for PvP: Unassisted, it can take years to build a proper character for pvp. That is a pretty big investment for an uncertain payoff. I guess that is just how Ragnarok is but I still think it could use improvement. (applies to co-op/ woe in a lesser degree too)

A few more turn ins could be neat. Possibly another alternative to Alligators and the upper tier hunts?

Nevermind, looks like Classic can't be advertised on Steam cause Steam is being iffy.

That is something we are looking at for Classic or Renewal in the future. There are a lot of people who want to play RO but going into a server with years of established economy can be intimidating. The idea we were looking at would be to have periodic mergers onto the main server once the seasonal server reaches a certain level of development to keep a positive growth in the main servers while providing a new place for new players to jump into the game. One obstacle is we do not currently have the infrastructure in place for the kind of periodic mergers that would be needed to make this work.

This is great to hear. Please keep the "vanilla" feel when implementing such servers (at least when it comes to classic, I do not know enough about renewal to comment). You might scoff at nostalgia but it's a powerful draw to get a boost in popularity. The quickest thing to kill nostalgia is things not being "vanilla" enough and changing too much.

Looking forward to further information on this.

Yeah start pre-amatsu and it's good.

I mean pre-amatsu spawns. That's REAL classic. Don't do the stupid post-amatsu spawns on a fresh server, they're actually terrible.

Next week Asst. Producer Ozzalia and myself will be working on new quests for the early game in Classic. The intent is to eventually replace Janeway with a quest that will lead new players from the training grounds to Asgard Village to hunt quests on fields and dungeons.

Sure, I'm good with this. Personally I also prefer pre-amatsu! Whatever you decide please be consistent. Don't make your playerbase have to hunt through random threads in random sub-forums to figure out the actual spawns in maps.

The actual spawns in classic still confuse me to this day. So many maps have no rhyme or reason to their setup.

I may be the only one, but RO loses the nostalgic feel when stuff like satan morroc, thors hit the server. Valk is about as far as I can deal with before it turns into what I remember as the decline of the game.

id have to agree with that the newer items ( lol valk shield, dash bash,  and tidals ) were disgusting addons that probably should of been tweaked in a balance patch

also the newer maps abusive amounts of mad exp killed party leveling in about every server ive played personally

oh and also please no slotted mids and if they must be a thing do the right thing and use them as a good zeny sink

They'd be ok as a rare OPB drop. No harm giving value to OPBs since most MvPs drop them.

I'd just like to stress that if you plan to do seasonal servers, do it right. You messed up with classic, let's not mince words here. Classic killed off a lot of people's love for the game after they discovered all the changes that got made to it. I was there the day it launched, you definitely managed to reach out to many old players. Then shortly after that, mismanagement and bad decisions (like account binding cash shop gear, remember that?) chased people away, possibly for good.

RO is a flawed game. There, I said it. However, after so many years, people have come to like these flaws. A good parallel would be how there are people clamoring for a legacy WoW server. Vanilla WoW was, in many respects, a deeply flawed game, but people came to enjoy and love those flaws. A "flawed" game also gives rise to plenty of emergent gameplay because a perfectly standardized theme-park does not allow for such a thing.

I dearly hope you learn from your mistakes that was classic's launch and do it right, this time.

There are some positive changes that can be made as we saw, but frankly these changes need an incredible amount of research and discussion (that means listening to and allowing players to disagree and explore all sides of it); some things kept the same will be detrimental in the long term if coupled with drop rate increases (so you have to wind back base drop rates on certain things and I think we all know what they are) - and making sure cash shop stuff isn't meta creating or BiS.

If I had to pinpoint anything as the biggest mistake on classic.... I'll point to my god inventory. Both made and unmade. THAT should never have been allowed to happen... and before anyone calls me out on being a hypocrite, if I didn't someone else would have. I posted clearly in favour of not changing the damn thing - there were lessons from previous servers to be learned and classic has many things to take away from it.

I would like to make suggestions in pvm / leveling regarding on Turn in maps/monsters. This is at least lessen the Discrimination on Classes on certain TI Maps such as Ice Dungeon 3. Like for example Hunters / Blacksmiths at level 70 can’t even get into party because that class cannot do much on leveling unlike Wizards, Priest, Bard. You can only join in party unless you have a friend / guildmate that is Party Leader or Assassin / LK that can pull titans on party. And this is also not good for new players that wants to level (i saw some new players can't join in party ending up not playing, stopping at 70 or force to make new wizard just to level). I also remember way back, an Assassin that patiently waits for 10hours just to get in party (coz he can't pull).

And I also want to add this, if JANEWAY quest is permanent I suggest to limit / stop it at LEVEL 50.

Level 50+ / 2nd Job / class shouldn’t be or not to rely with 1 turn in / kill = 10 levels. This is to emphasize on learning to and how to play more on their character. Janeway Leveling on 1st job 50/50 is ok already.

On other old turn in maps/monsters such as Creamy, Caramels, and others should be remove if the Janeway Leveling is permanent. Also with Fencer Scrolls I believe even newly trans/rebirth class wouldn’t go and warp/walk on this maps just to pass items / or turn in counts.

This are my suggestions on 50+ Turn in Maps/Monsters:

If Possible Make an NPC Warper that can warp them on certain maps.

Levels 50 – 60 – Make this at least 4 Turn ins on Non Vip, on Vip like 3 Turn ins to get level 60.

*Munak (70kills) / Bongun (30kills) – Bonguns are less on spawn rate.

  • This monsters can drop Shoes[1] and also increase the drop rate on this.

*Minorous (50kills) / Verit (50kills) – Card from them is also useful later on.

*Zerom (50kills) / Matyr (50kills) or Marduks / Pasana

*Toy Factory – Cruisers, etc.

Levels 60 – 70 – Same as above on how many turn ins to get level 70.

*Glast Heim - Zombie Prisoner (50kills) / Skel Prisoner (50kills) or more kill counts.

  • Early months/year of Ragnarok, this place are so crowded by players. Brings back some memories on old players that leveled here lol.

*Marc (50kills) / Phen (50kills) or more kill counts

  • Cards from them will benefit on Casters and for Unfrozen Armor.

*Orc Dungeon 1 or 2 – Same kill counts or more

Levels 70 - 80 or 85? – Same as above on how many turn ins to get level 80 or 85.

*Raydrics (100) / Raydric Archers (50?)

*High Orc / Orc Hunter

*Comodo Dungeon – Stalactic Golems / Megaliths

*Turtle Island Dungeon – Permeter / Solider or other monsters there.

Levels 80 – 90 or 95? Decide on how many turn ins to get to level 90 or 95.

*Ancient Mummies or Anubis - 100 – 150kills

*Goats / Medusa – 100 – 150kills (keep the same TI)

*Bloody Murderer / Loli Ruri (to anyone wants Black cat dolls for Drooping Cat)

*Juperos Dungeon – Venatu (keep the same TI)

*Rachel Dungeon – for them to do entrance quest and also pre req on doing Nameless Entrance Quest.

Levels 80 – 99 – Well Keep the *ID3 / AL3 TI maps

*Thanatos Tower – or maybe this also good in 80 – 90 TI

*Nameless Dungeon (for those who finished / done the entrance quest)

Well there are so so so many maps / monsters that are also okay in Turning ins such as Amatsu (The papers) , Gonryun Map / Dungeon (Zipper Bears, Evil Nymps, Hermits) Louyang Map / Dungeon (Jing Guai, Yao Jun, Green Maidens, Mao Guai, Zhu Po Long), Moscovia Dungeon, Toy Factory, Turtle Island, Geffen Tower and many more. This can also help explore other maps / dungeons for hunting / leveling.

Or Maybe can do cycle / change of High tier Turn in maps so that players are not bored on same leveling map, change it like 2 – 5months or more. Give the players more maps on leveling specially on new players, this will maybe at least get more new players? or friends to come and play on this server.

Well I still love classic leveling without TI but if this can happen, make it 3 or 4x Exp as default. Cheers xD

oh hello, social things? bring back raffler. no ygg items no kshop items no hugel races items. throw in some cute quest hats (cake hat! chef hat! bandaids!) for cheap tickets, losing being idk speed pots or something that won't murder the server if there are that many (or maybe speeds will idk). maybe have one big ticket raffle a day that you enter and it tallies at midnight server time and whoever wins gets an aca or something.

i literally just smashed ideas i just thought up onto the page for items so that could change, but man raffler's a nice place to sit and see people

welp thanks for readin',  see ya

That is something we are looking at for Classic or Renewal in the future. There are a lot of people who want to play RO but going into a server with years of established economy can be intimidating. The idea we were looking at would be to have periodic mergers onto the main server once the seasonal server reaches a certain level of development to keep a positive growth in the main servers while providing a new place for new players to jump into the game. One obstacle is we do not currently have the infrastructure in place for the kind of periodic mergers that would be needed to make this work.

Can you make an estimation as to when you will have the infrastructure for this? I know literally dozens of players who would rejoin Ragnarok Classic on Seasonal Servers and who knows, maybe some of them will then keep playing again.

Also I'm interested in doing some Events for this server so I wanted to ask if you can announce these events or help me in executing these events? I wouldn't need much to get them started, maybe just some megaphones so people that don't watch the forums might have a chance at participating too.

I'd also provide the rewards myself.
