Hi, everyone. I'm new to the Merchant class and kinda stuck at level 101, not sure what to do next. I've also come to realize that I've made a few mistakes on my way, and I'll cover this later in the post.

First of all, here's a mess of a Mecha I've got at the moment:

Base lvl 101, Job level 12

STR 90

AGI 60

VIT 60

INT 20

DEX 60

LUK 1

Skills: MS battle build + 11 Mado skills up to Arm Cannon 1

Equips:

Weapons: Giant Axe [Andre], Light Epsilon

Armor: Glittering Jacket [Porcelio], Glittering Jacket [Evil Druid], Lucius's Fierce Armor of Volcano

Garment: Nidhoggur's Shadow [Raydric]

Shoes: Variant Shoes

Some other valuables I have with me:

Teddy Bear Card (but all my weapons are two-handed)

Medusa Card

+7 Valkyria's Manteau (useless on a Mecha, I guess?)

~100 Rough Energy Crystals (still not sure what to make with them)

~100 Purified Energy Crystals (same here, but keeps me going)

~3000 Fabric

~5.5m zeny

My current problem is: I can't seem to be able to kill anything in my Mado. The Arm Cannon cast is too long, and my damage is too low: it takes 2 or 3 casts to kill monsters in Nogg's Road 2 even with Holy Cannon Balls and Ice Converters. I also get swamped pretty fast while casting, even if I fly-wing right after a cast, so IF I'm still alive, it takes a huge amount of potions to heal. And 5 minutes into the map I'm overheated — and the Cooldown is not available for 5 more job levels, and I still have to max Arm Cannon and Mado License first.

What would you guys do? Should I buy some KP and reset to more DEX and INT? Should I just continue to grind Dark Priests out of Mado until my arm falls off Arm Cannon 3? Will it be better then? Should I sell all my stuff (or KP) to get a Pile Bunker ASAP? (Why the hell are Broccas so expensive suddenly?) Any suggestions will help.

Now for mistakes I've made:

1. (Not sure if this one's a mistake) Making a Mechanic my first and only character. I fell in love with the Blacksmith class instantly, so nothing else really bothered me. I still managed to get some decent gears and money for Fresh Fish, lol, but now I'm almost broke.

2. Not taking advantage of the Upgrade Weapon skill on MS job level 70. If only I knew about the Mimic eating gears in Eden and giving Safe Certificates earlier. T_T

3. Investing so much into AGI from the start. It made leveling my Mastersmith to 99 kinda easy, but it's a useless waste of stats now.

4. Not staying on base level 99 and leveling with Axe Tornado until I have enough skill points for Mado License 3-5 and Arm Cannon 2 (maybe other skills too). Staying on 99 gives two major benefits: free skill reset and 95-99 Eden Boards that give a huge job exp boost.

5. Selling a lot of Purified Energy Crystals for 70k. Could've crafted something out of them by now, lol.

I would save up to get the new AC set.

Upgrade part - Plate

Upgrade part - Engine

Upgrade part - Booster

Upgrade part - Barrel

These are base level 100 equips, great to start with until you get better gear. Also, try getting a pile bunker until 130 then get a pile bunker P.

You can level with those stats but it will be a little bit of a pain. I would work on getting the following,

Vit - 93

Dex - 95

As for leveling, Nogg road is good. Ice launcher will do well in there at level 2-3. AC should be able to one shot with the gears listed.

Overheat is a big pain, sometimes you have to pot through it, especially if you use a battle manual.

mechanic is an expensive class to play due to supplies you need in timely basis. even your cart also will be full by supplies.
same as boxinguru said above,
or at the time being you can make farmer cheap classes to help you gain zeny like rangers, RKs, GX. then reform your mechanic once you have enough zeny to run mech again.
in case of overheating, do cooldown skill. i cure overheat by 10 cooldowns at remodel mainframe level 4.

Don't worry about it tagyoureit, I made mistakes 1,2 and 4 as well haha.

Some pieces of advice I can give for the early levels as Mechanic.

1.  Definitely get a Pile Bunker.  Being able to equip a shield, and more than doubling your attack is too good to pass up.  You will also be needing a regular pile bunker if you want to craft the two new Slotted Pile Bunkers (  130 level req ) from Verus.  Ragial.com can help you compare prices, I've seen some +7 ones go for cheaper than the regular unupgraded ones.

2.  There's a huge damage difference between Arm Cannon 1 and 2.  But if you're having trouble with mobbing, Knuckle Boost can be used for single target leveling until you get the required skill points.  It's also one of the few mech skills that don't require items.

3.  If you're doing Nogg, also make sure to pick up the Bounty Boards in Juno and the Eden Quests for it ( 100-110 )   While you're at it, check out the other eden quests for that level range, as turning in those courtesy tickets can get you slim whites and OCA's.

4.  Besides having a wee bit more agi than usual, I think the stats are okay.  You will be needing more int though, if you plan on leveling with Arm Cannon.  An SP leeching headgear ( Rideword Hat or Vanargand )  would also be helpful.

Thanks, guys! I think I'll go level 2 or 3 other characters to quickly raise funds for the Pile Bunker and pots, maybe the Upgrade Parts set too. I'll also wait till I have Arm Cannon 2 or 3 before I go to Nogg's Road again. Glastheim spotlight, here I come!
