What do you guys think about Ragnarok having a storyline quest system? Is that even possible to do? Are we allowed to do such things? Would it make the game better or worst? Let's discuss!

I know that MMORPGs have a quite specific gameplay style, but am I the only one that feel like the game is kinda... Empty? I mean, there's some basic story behind each episode, the Satan Morroc thing, the birth of the 3rd classes and all, but wouldn't it be cooler if we actually had some quests to make a more in-depth approach of the story? It would be cool if the game wasn't all about genocide and stuff :v

Seeing your character becoming stronger, with better gear and new skills make you want to keep playing, but if we had some interesting quests to do from maybe Lvl 1~100, for example (like I said, we're discussing here) and let the grinding for higher levels (100+). In my opinion, that would make not only the game more interesting and with more... Involvement from the players, but also would make leveling less boring. It also would help all the players to level without being forced to struggle to find parties because of not having AoE or good support skills, finishing those stereotypes that, while funny, some of them are true.

I'm aware we have a full table of side quests, but I'm talking about main quests, like doing quest 1 to be able to do quest 2, to be able to do quest 3, etc. With dialogues about Ragnarok Story and all that stuff.

For example, when you're going to rebirth, there's a nice mini-story about Ymir and his deeds, you enter a Valhalla-like hall, you talk to the Valkyrie with that cool dialogue about abandoning your old life and possessions and you think "Oh cool, I feel such an adventurer, my life has a meaning" and 5 seconds after that you think "Wait, remind me again: why am I doing this? Let me go back to genocide Porings".

Another one: the 3rd Class tests. While I've never became a 3rd class from every possible job in Ragnarok, some of them really have a poor background story. When you become an ArchBishop, you can barely read the dialogues because you're being raped by thousands of monsters or are concerned about being suddenly kicked from the room. When you become a Ranger, it's almost the same, except you're so tired of retrying the test that you just click ok in everything (not that it has that much story anyway). Rune Knights also don't have that much background. From what I can say, the Guillotine Cross is an exception, since you do all that quest that really makes you feel like you're in a GX guild and is an Assassin completing a task assigned to you.

While the renewal hotsite has some story regarding the 3rd classes, you're not told about that in-game. To be honest, I even think that becoming a 2nd class after rebirthing should also have a test instead of returning to "Valhalla" and just transforming into the class.

But I guess that this post is already too big :v what do you guys think?

Each country, I would say, has its own storyline quests technically. http://irowiki.org/wiki/Arc_Quests

There's not a lot of it right now because the developers didn't really focus on story and lore very much in the game. But supposedly future episodes past Episode 14 will start adding more storyline quests. The question remains as to how long we have to wait to get those.

It appears you're suggesting the implementation of main (story) quest feature of modern MMORPGs like the one I started playing which automatically commences as soon as you're able to control your character and continues until the end of the available content. Its implementation, I agree, will make RO feel less of a grinding game and more engaging as players are immersed in a story that progresses along with their levels.

WoW has a pretty good style of implementating story quests, somehow makes it less replayable tho

I'd rather have RO and it's (somehow) balancedstory and grinding ratio

###more exp for side and mainstory quests please

Yes, that's what I'm saying! So we could feel more immersed in a story and less like "hey let me grind until level 175 so I can show my friends that I cool aura I have".

But I wonder if that would take us too far from the essence of the game. Tho I think changes are good if they'rewell done. Look at the new God of War, for example.

It would be cool to also have more equipment that could be rewarded in quests. I mean, there's Eden equip, but using Eden Set I, II and III for the rest of your life because they're the only good thing you'll ever get from quests? Why not creating some new quest sets, something besides Eden equipment, so players can have more choices of what to wear.

I would totally volunteer to help with all that stuff; writing quests, having ideas for new equipment. I believe some other players would volunteer too...

If you want people to be questing from level 1,then yes, it would take away from the open world essence of the game and people will start complaining that it's become a quest-based theme park MMO. I agree with Lorenz in that RO would need to balance it so that quests aren't the main focus of the game, but are advertised well enough so that people who are interested can do them.

Yeah, that's my main concern. I was thinking about it, and I guess it's a change too big to be done. I mean, it's not like a new instance, it's a complete revamp of the gameplay...

I believe the only way to make that work would be just adding quests really immersed in the story of the game, but in no way as obligatory quests, but as being like side quests in some sort of way. I guess just adding side quests with a "main quest" essence" would work fine.

But I still think that we should have job tests for transcendent 2nd class, as well as more and/or better equipment as rewards, and better 3rd class tests...

kRO is adding more lore quests to the game, but they're only accessible from Eden Group. I'm guessing that's going to be their default method for adding story quests; shove it all into Eden Group instead of having them located in the cities and towns themselves for better immersion.

I personally would not want RO to become a game where a quest chain holds your hand from level 1-175.  It makes the game feel like a single pathway instead of a logical world. (also, how would the 1-99 quests work with transcending?)  I would rather them do what RO currently does, have quest chains in different areas that you can do when you want.  However, the quest system needs to be improved in other ways like giving 100% of quests quest markers and quest journal entries.  write quest dialog and journal entries so that the next step is clear so that you're not stuck looking at irowiki to know what the next step is. And also make sure all quests have good exp and jexp rewards.
