How do new players fare well in classic if it offers no free Eden Gears for new players who prolly have a hard time finding decent gears? By begging? xD I remember this is the first iRO server that my homies tried and they sure had a hard time leveling up with their poor gears. Were they just ignorant of the server's substitute for Eden Gears? If so, does the server provide enough info that's easily accessible to newbs for guidance on decent newbie gears and whatnot?

The new players I've seen that have gained a foothold on the server got into a guild. Finding other people to play with is always nice and help can be found there, usually.
True, we don't have Eden Gear; we have cursed and while it isn't ideal, it's enough to help a new player complete Janeway. After that it's a grind and gotta try to find what to sell using ragial.com
Yeah, there isn't really a good collection of noob friendly information on how to get started, but that can be fixed with community guides.

The trick is to go into asgard and use the janeway thing / cursed gear quest. People in asgard know its a newbie center so they tend to be quite friendly.
Other good places to look for advice/help are west prontera.
The thing is, you don't really need "decent" gears to start out. Since there's no level range penalty on Classic, you can level with the scrubbiest stuff. It might take time, but you can kill something like geographers with an npc bow, etc. Lots of kiting and party tactics... high orcs, storm gust at level 70. It depends on your classes, but it's more like "lost knowledge"
and then there's comedy option level 99 fencers from level 1.

So with these, I guess the "Classic" life is indeed a lot slower than RENEWAL and therefore not ideal for players who don't have the luxury to spend an entire day killing the same monsters in the same map without much progress? Coz I'm sure my buddies complained a lot of having not much of a progress after a week of playing even with a kind player helping them a lil bit with some gears and leveling guides. Also, the monsters spawns are quite different from what we got accustomed to way back in our old local server so I guess that too contributed to their slow progress as they're all lost as to where to go for their target monsters..
But with the "no level range penalty" thing, does it also include the absence of level range for even-share parties?

depending on the class you pick leveling will be much faster than renewal
http://irowiki.org/c...able_EXP_Quests
abuse these quests which can also give you some good zeny in the process if you prefer it that way
you have to be within 10 levels of of each other to share in classic
there are also party like quests in ice dungeon 3 and abyss 3 which are like gramps but on crack exp wise

Repeatable exp quests are a decent way to go. On classic you can 99 a BB knight in a matter of hours relatively cheap. Same with a DD sin, Hunters use traps to level at high exp places, etc. While killing the same monster over and over isn't ideal, that's the game. The leveling experience has been shortened a lot already, 99ing a char (from 98 to 99) used to take a year if you were casual (sometimes even if you weren't casual).
BG's are going on pretty frequently and that gear isn't bad for starters and it's technically free. (Time is money)
If you're having trouble with the spawns on classic, you can use this http://db.irowiki.org/classic/
I might be misunderstanding, but the no range just means you can have a lvl 99 character kill a kill count monster while in your party and the whole party gets the kill. It doesn't allow shared exp with a person over the limit.
Edit: At this stage in the server though, I recommend new players try to find guilds to get involved with so they don't burn themselves out and get bored from playing alone.

I see. So that's the trade in Classic. Thanks, y'all for the generous input. My curiosity now satiated.

share range in party is 10 levels (unlike renewals 15?) but if you have the means to klil a level 80 monster as a level 1 novice, you'll get the full exp, thus classic tends to power level off monsters higher than their norm, via tanking or kiting. Examples would be stuff like a level 30 archer killing geographers or mi gaos, or a level 60 priest TUing or resing anubis.
if you guys want i can give you a quick demo and some advice in game after woe and tonights pvp event. It's actually a lot easier than renewal if you know the right classes / places.
With something like just an icepick and an endow from a slave account, even an assassin can level to 99 in maybe 4 hours from scratch in ice titans. Equipment isn't too big of a deal, it just makes it a bit faster.

well an archers damage stat is dex ;P but you can do it with a mage too, or use the mercenary ... or use very strong weapons vvs weapons etc
the low level mages need to go pure int to begin with to do that stuff, since int has a bigger affect on matk on classic (also dex and luk don't contribute)

So it was the lack of matk powers that resulted to the misses then? Coz I'm sure that a magic spell should never miss as long as it's the right property against another. But I thought these "too low atk power to land a hit" is a thing of RENEWAL... I was wrong all along.

Obeaune MDEF is just too much for low lvl mage, your damage was probably just being reduced to 0. Once you start getting higher INT it won't be a problem anymore.

So I have come to realize.
But then again, you can never have higher int if you don't level up. And you won't level up if you can't kill your target. But you can't kill your target because your stats are too low to land a hit. So you have to level up for better stats but... so... but... so... And then the last resort is just kill Ant Eggs till like lv50. And if your stats are still too low to land a hit or to kill one without taking a day, just hit the porings and spores till you're stronger. But I imagine the how long it will take to be "stronger" with only porings and spores as your viable prey.

Assuming that janeway is always there in Classic and that iRO Classic newbies know anything about it from the get-go.

Janeway is always in, it's in Asgard.
Ant eggs are terrible xp. Janeway should be doable, other than Archer Skeletons the rest are fairly easy for mage. For low lvl mages good leveling places are Mi Gaos, GH Prison, Geographers.
While leveling is not that hard, it will be hard to find good spots if you don't do any research

Ah! That's great then!
But actually I don't main on mage. I just used that example from my very first RO experience in our local server when Trans classes were still fresh from the oven.
But thanks, these tips will come in handy if I decide to give Classic a shot in the future.^^
