If you want to sell a MVP card, you open a ticket asking the GMs to verify it's legitimacy. If you're going to buy it, you ask the card owner for the ticket's reply, so that you know he's not a duper and the card is legit. Though, if the trade is going to be GM aided, as most of them are, the GMs will likely verify the card before doing the transaction.

There were or times when MvP cards were dupped. While GMs actively remove the cards, there are still out there I believe. That's how it all started and the rest is like what Kusa said.
So you mean GM cannot find all those dupped cards?

Yes and No.
In the past the GM team ran queries on their DB to find the number of items/cards on the server. So they've found them before, but the items can be recreated. That and the query takes a decent chunk of time.

i thought they can only do that on classic, not renewal

You're probably right, but I'm sure they have methods of discovery on renewal.
