just wondering if there was any faster way of rolling or getting back up after getting knocked down instead of just waiting for a couple seconds for your character to automatically get back up. I am under the impression that I have sometimes accidentally done it - that is, rolling up almost immediately after getting knocked down, as opposed to just lying on my back and getting smacked a few more times.

Can anyone explain this mechanism to me in more detail, if it exists at all?

Press jump right when you get knocked down. It takes a while to get used to the timing.

press jump + direction you want to roll, simple as that.

Increase in movement speed also helps too!

You have a small time frame to tech in smash bros as well, but yeah, what Yurai said.
