okay. I get that I activate the stance and while fighting there's a 20% chance of it activating, with which I have a window of time to use the skill. However when I try to use it all it says is "To [Darrc] use [Counter Kick] skill" but he never actually attacks. What am I supposed to do?

WHen you enter the stance, there is a chance to open up a window to cast the actual attack skill.
When the chance opens, hit the attack, not the stance, hotkey.

that's what I do.

Revelation: If I just spam the attack button while fighting I'll use it eventually. lol. guess that's what I'll do from here on.

Edit: I have learned that if I *try* to use it, it doesn't, but if I just go with it, it works. lol.

I practiced the timing for the kicks on plants and mushrooms. It gets a bit more confusing once you have more than one kick activated, but the plants and such made it really easy to test since they don't attack and it takes a good number hits to finish them. That is what I recommend.
