The term Pay2win is mostly used within the MMO Industy, for "winning" by paying, and getting you all the way to the top, many people have their own conclusions for the term, and it got me curious, what's yours?

Is it, the fact that you "buy items that can't be obtained without the Item mall"

or

"buy to get better faster"

In which of those 2, do you, and would you consider the term "pay2win" for the most part of it?

I'm very curious why you are interested in knowing this. However, I want to state what we officially consider as pay 2 win because this is what our development is based on.

First of all the term pay-2-win is not created by the industry. The game industry has two different terms: free to play and pay to play. Pay to win is a term created by MMO magazines and players, mainly to categorize free to play games. The game industry only use this term in a positive way by stating that "the game is not pay to win", because it gives the game a positive feeling, especially used for advertisement purposes.

Now the following is the definition of pay to win by the Dragon Saga team and this is what our development is based on to make this game not or at least as less pay to win as possible:

A free to play game is pay to win if content/end-game content or in-game items needed to reach and use content/end-game content can not be obtained without investing real world currency. We can consider Dragon Saga not being pay to win because:

  • many IM Items can be sold in the in-game market/COD-mailed for in-game gold by players who aren't allowed/able/willing to invest real world currency
  • many IM Items can be obtained in-game as event versions without investing real world currency at all
  • all IM Items can be gifted by players to others
  • no IM Item is basically needed to reach, access and play the content including end-game content

We consider our game being pay to speedup the process of building the player's character but not as being pay to win. We do not force any player to invest real world currency.

this is not 100% true to get IS and RIS scroll outside of special events the cash shop is only option

so if no one buy IM we cant get everything +20 ( is possible to buy them from other players with gold  but some one had to buy the scrolls in the first place)

It is 100% true. You can get them in the Vending Machine and at the Consumable Merchant Harvey for silver coins.

Plus, you don't need +20 gear to access and play ALL content of this game.

This game was never pay to win at any point from since I've played. Only thing I don't like are those f6 rings they should have never let those in.

The original topic of this forum isn't really being responded to, and instead, this inquiry is becoming derailed into discussing how it relates to opinions about Dragon Saga. As this topic was not even originally focused on Dragon Saga, but rather on the definitions that the community might have about terminology, I am not even sure if this topic belongs in Dragon Saga Community Chat, but might instead be better placed in an off topic section of the forums. As such, I am going to lock this topic at this time, as it is not directed towards the Dragon Saga gameplay and is already becoming very off topic to the original inquiry.

With regards to several posts in this thread. I understand some players may be frustrated with some portions of the game. Though Dragon Saga staff does strive to make the game enjoyable for all, regardless of if the player is paying for items in the Item Mall, there is always room for improvement in any game! Some Item Mall items are intended to make progress faster to get through, however there are plenty of events and in game equivalents that can be obtained by spending more time playing the game. However, we would like to find ways of improving progress or gameplay that you may find impossible to get through without an item mall purchase. As such, if you have such concerns about the game, please let us know exactly which content are you having difficulty getting through in the game, and how you think it could be improved? You can create separate threads regarding the problems you are having with this content, but please be careful to remain civil, and stick to the forums rules and regulations.
