That's a handler error, and nobody on the forums can get any information out of them.

When did you receive the error? Do you always receive the error when you try to do whatever it is you were doing? Most importantly, are there any other errors that appear before you get the handler error?

Edit: Wait, your client is timestamped June 22, that's the problem. You get a CPalleteRes error right before the grav error, too, i'll bet. You need the renewal update.

You have to download the latest version of the client ( www.irowiki.org/Clients_and_Patches ), and then allow it to patch fully. If you're using Vista or Windows 7, be sure to install RO outside of the Program Files folder, in order to prevent patching problems (make a folder like C:/games or something). Even so, you may need to set the patcher to always run as administrator (rightclick it, properties, and check the box to always run as admin).

I got this error today when I went to go to my character select screen for the valkyre server. When I do load up the game though I get this message.

This program cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:
Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.

Retype the address.

Go back to the previous page.

More information

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

Internet connectivity has been lost.
The website is temporarily unavailable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.

However I can get on the internet fine. Im very confused

Ah, okay, well, then, there's a second problem, RO will never work until you fix that, because the patcher is unable to get the list of files it needs in order to patch.

Your Internet Explorer is for some reason unable to connect to the iRO website (the patcher hooks into IE to get the list of files to patch).
Open IE, dig through the settings, and figure out what thing you have set wrong. Often times people have old proxy settings configured that need to be removed. Once you get it fixed, install RO from the latest installer (unless that's the one you've already installed from), and patch it up. Again, if you're using vista/7, you may need to set RO to run as administrator.

Lest you think that this is RO being stupid, most MMORPG and online game patchers hook into IE in the same way (including big names like Blizzard - SC2 does the same thing, and can be broken in the same way.)

Do you have to use Internet Explorer for RO? Or is there some way to change that cause I use Mozilla Firefox for my internet.

You don't need to "use" internet explorer, but IE must be able to access the RO website successfully. You must adjust settings to bring that about. It doesn't matter if you use a real browser for everything else (I don't use IE either, though i'm a chrome person), but you need to have IE working in order for RO (as well as most other MMO games, and many other programs) to work correctly.

There is no way to not rely on IE, and relying on the IE-callins is the most sound choice from a programmers perspective in terms of compatibility. The dependence on IE is, in my opinion as a programmer, not a design flaw. There are a lot of design flaws in the patcher, but that's not one of them.

Correct, you cannot use mozilla (or anything else) in place of IE when a program uses IE-based libraries.

It's impossible to remove internet explorer from a windows installation though, as far as I know (if it's possible, it's hard to do). You've just gotta get it working (you definitely have IE; the error you posted at the top is generated by IE)
Remember, RO is by no means the only program that won't work if your IE doesn't work. Most MMO patchers do the same thing, as do a fairly large number of other programs. So it's something you kinda need to fix anyway >.>

Yes you do, that error above came from IE. I think you just deleted the shortcut to it.

Start -> run -> iexplore

will start internet explorer, even if you deleted all the shortcuts to it.

If that doesn't work, then you actually did manage to get rid of most of IE, and you'll need to get it back; break out your windows CD, and start->control panel -> add/remove programs, and check off "Internet Explorer" and follow the onscreen prompts, inserting the CD when indicated. When it's done, run automatic updates (make sure you have the security fixes to IE), open IE, and see if it works, and change settings to make it work if needed.

So doing start -> run -> iexplore did not start IE? In that case, follow above instructions.

Click Start, then select run, and then type: iexplore

The instructions for IE reinstall - I posted them a few posts up (edited them in after posting it, so they may not have been there when you first read it.)

Ugh, microsoft, on a crusade to make our computers harder to use through horrible default settings...

right click the start menu, click "properties." If you're on the "Taskbar" tab, click the "Start Menu" tab
Click customize.
Click the advanced tab. scroll down to "run command" and check it.
If you are using the Classic Start Menu, there will be no "advanced" tab; check "display run" on the list.

Hit OK, and then click the start menu, and run should be there - so click run, and type: iexplore and click ok - and internet explorer will probably start.
