I think battlegrounds is a great idea, but the idea is ruined in the fact that people can just farm for the items because essentially, it's the items that people are gunning for. Otherwise, it is just a large PVP zone and people aren't so thrilled about waiting so long for that.

I suggest the following:

Rewards: Change the rewards of the BG instead of medals and badges, to weekly or even monthly points (similar to the alchemist and blacksmith list). With the top ten, give a reward such as +10 dex while ranked, +x hit, +something success rate, etc. It doesn't have to be anything amazing... but enough to entice people to want to do battlegrounds more.

Wait Time: This should be cut down or completely eliminated so that people don't have to sit and wait all the time. The concept of PVP is fun because people can go in and just start ripping it up. I think doing so in battlegrounds would be fun too.

Point System: To discourage farming, I suggest a ranking system for points. So let's say you kill someone with 0 points, then you get maybe 1 point, and the person gets -1. At -20 or more, you would get nothing whereas the player dying will still keep losing. Let's say you kill someone with 10 points, then you get 2 points, etc and that person would lose 2 points. It shouldn't go too high, because it would go unbalanced.

Longer battles maybe: Perhaps make it so that people will do 1/10 of the damage or something like that and make it so that potions are unusable, or heal for 1/20th of the value, or something like that. I think having a longer drawn out battle makes it more fun than something like... "GFIST!" done.

That's my concept.
