You will not receive job experience points when your homunculus does the kill all on its own, but you still receive base exp.

You go somewhere with your homun, have it out and let it kill stuff while you are afk.

To do so for an extended ammount of time without having to feed you need a lot of loyalty points (Neutral, Cordial or Loyal loyalty).

If you are unsure, you can just feed your homunculus to 85 hunger. That allows you to be afk for 1h without your homunculus starving and thus loosing loyalty points.

Yes, afk-leveling does mess with the job level, but that only really affects Alchemist/Biochemist.
Because of the exp-penalty the characters get using this afk-method to grind base will be really slow after hitting base ~85 (depending on where you afk).

At 85+ people genreally go low ti to level fast and and job-level deficit is easily fixed there.

As Genetic you will need so many base exp and receive so little from the mobs your homun can kill efficiently, that overall your job level will not lag behing much - if at all.

A homunculus however does not suffer from exp penalty, which is why they can easily use low level mobs to get to 150.
