Well I used to play this game a few years ago in an old era when Fire Pillar was the god spell. Now I've returned to it, and I have heard that Fire Pillar becomes useless(as you cannot cast directly on your target) and every wizard is building Meteor Storms nowadays, completely ignoring Fire Pillar. So, is it true that Fire Pillar is useless nowadays? If so, is Meteor Storm really that good? I know it very powerful, but the randomness in the area it hits worries me a little, since I dont want to rely on lucks.

I'm assuming you're asking about classic, in which case tagging the thread title with "classic" may help to attract the right attention. 

 

Anyway, does it not work to push the pillar with sight thrasher and/or magnum break?

Nope, I am actually on the chaos server, not the classic server. I understand there may be some difference, but I think the skills are about similar.

Oh, well in that case, neither spell really matters as you won't be using either once you hit Warlock.

 

I'd suggest using whatever you enjoy to level to 99. Really, the only wizard spell you may use as a warlock is Stormgust or Frost Nova (obviously the high wizard stuff like Soul Drain and Mystic Amp are good.)

 

I leveled my warlocks early on with mostly fireball, waterball, stormgust, and jupiter thunder. The heinous cast time + rng nature of meteor storm makes it not terribly useful, and once you get Crimson Rock it won't matter anyway. 

 

I have not tried fire pillar since renewal came out as fireball was buffed to be so much more effective at early leveling (it now does over 3x your matk instead of the 1.7x the description claims.)

I see. Yeah I am on the chaos server like you are, its so hard to levelup on the old classic server so for someone like me with about 1-2 hours/day to play the game, it will be not feasible to play on the classic server anymore. The new rebirth servers are a lot more friendly to working class man like I am, I am surprised how quick I changed class from novice to mage. It took only about 2 hours, before it took me days.

 

Anyway a few years ago I retired at the time when 3rd classes such as warlock were nonexistent, so my knowledge of RO only goes up to the 2nd classes, not even transcendent classes. As far as I know, after rebirth I will start at lv.1 again and the skills are reset, so before rebirth I should probably just experiment what skills are useful and powerful. Thanks for your suggestion, I will spend some time getting used to the new RO.

When you are level 1-99 you can reset skills as much as you want at the Mesmerist near Prontera Fountain.

So you can't really go wrong with Wizard and High Wizard skills. Just pick whatever is useful to level and finish the jobchange to Warlock. Then reset your skills to whatever you want/need for your Warlock time.

It is not useless but is not a skill highly valued these days for mass mob leveling.

I personally use this skill but its for fulfilling a veru specific build
