Hey everybody!

Recently, I have been having extreme difficulties with Internet Explorer (can't get it working even after reinstalling, figure it might be a registry related thing, ect.). Firefox still works great though.

The problem is, the RO Patch Client keeps trying to get updates through IE, and consequently fails every time.

Is there any particular way to make the Patch Client go through Firefox instead of IE? Because honestly, I've never really seen any options for that around =/ .

P.S., I can still play the game for some reason, it is just that I get a "cannot display page" thing on the patch client and don't get any patches. I don't know if what effect this will have in the long run, specially if there are major changes.

I doubt whether this will work, but it's worth trying:
  • Download then install Chrome Frame.
  • Download then open this file, which will set Chrome Frame as Internet Explorer's default renderer.

If it doesn't work, then you'll need to either repair Internet Explorer or reinstall Windows. Making the updater use Internet Explorer to download files was certainly one of Gravity's worst ever mistakes.

No, you must have Internet Explorer working in order for the patcher to work.

The iRO patch client uses IE-dependent API calls in order to fetch and display webpages. If your IE cannot access the RO website, RO can't patch. You cannot use another browser. The patch clients of many games, and a fair number of other programs, will have the same problem. You cannot have a windows system running without a working IE.

The most common reason for IE failing to work is old proxy settings. Check that you don't have any proxy configured in the IE settings.

Well since no one's addressing the pink elephant in the room... I guess I will. By "can't get it working" what exactly is your error/meaning? On windows XP machines you can check application and system events at: Control Panel --> Administrative tools --> Event Viewer

In the event viewer you will see several events in the menu, you should only be concerned with Application and System. Right clicking on the Application or System under local gives you the ability to filter errors & warnings exclusively.... Try to make the program crash, then check out what the log spits out (as well as the error given on screen), inside the log is typically and Event ID and description. Also keep an eye out for repeating errors/warnings that stretch back to roughly around the day your problem started, if either of these are found... post the information here and I'll try to guide ya through a few things.
