Exactly. I even made a mention of it in the OP.

edit: I can do a pretty genuine British accent.

You don't need logic to understand everything. You need what is common.

No it doesn't but then never encountered such problems during my entire life playing RO with GG. On my experience the problem will only show if you try to edit your client by removing/disabling the GG. Updates do that.

I'm not against it but I like RO without it.

I'm against it because I'm actually educated on the matter. Hack shields are nothing but trouble. In particular, you keep mentioning GameGuard, which is nothing more than a terribly invasive rootkit.

I can download a variety of safer viruses for my computer than GameGuard.

It's not hard to bypass a hack shield. It's harder to play with one on.

No one should ever suggest a hack shield.

I don't think I ever said I wasn't willing to stop using them, which is where the problem would lay.

Just like how I'm probably going to be using RCX this weekend. I don't like it, but it has to be done.

More like "look at all the posters who exist only to argue with xellie/post only to disagree with xellie"

And to put it back on track, there are some edits that "look ROish" and there are some that make it look like a completely different game. The latter is what I'm mainly talking about. They're gross. My guildmates use them and I hate watching their videos because of it.

I think QoL edits are okay, I think ones that let you cheat mechanics are not. I like to think of them as add ons much like WoW has :X

Did I ever say I'm pro to it? Quit putting words into my mouth. You being educated to it doesn't prove anything. It is not even a suggestion.

I did mention it as an example intiende?

Client Edits

  • Any Client edit except those that do the following are prohibited. What this means if they are not going to ban you if you use one of the ones below. We do not recommend that you ever edit your client. This can result in game client instability and we cannot assist you if you do so. You may need to reinstall the game to make the client playable again
    • Graphical Edits that help with the display of skill outlines
      • Ex Gutter Lines, Over Lays that show skill splash Zone
    • Graphical Edits that are purely Cosmetic in Nature
      • Ex. Big Card Edits (Please note replacing monster or player sprites can be viewed as giving players an unfair advantage and may result in account suspension)
    • Informational Client Edits that help with tracking buff timers
    • Creation of Mini Map files for maps that do not have them.
    • Certain Edits that help with client performance
      • Ex. Remove Shake, Remove Hallucination
    • Removal of Camera Restrictions on Maps DO NOT EDIT Render RADIUS
    • Use of Keyboard/AHK Macros that Do Not Automate Play

Excerpted from this post RO1 In Game Rules and Guidelines, emphasis mine.

Regarding the GM's switcharoo - generally that shouldn't happen, but it can be difficult to determine whether or not a certain graphical edit can reasonably give an unfair playing advantage. If it's a real big issue, you can PM the ticket to me and I'll have a look into it, or let Warnhal know.

They should watch a video fully before declaring it legal, that's all. If bright green stalker prints and bright red grimtooth and hide indicators need to be pointed out to the GM answering the question then perhaps the team need education. (That's actually on top of getting different replies depending on the GM)

Elsewise, I think the client editting fad is just gross and ruins the way the game looks, makes it look completely different to potential returning players, puts everyone on uneven ground unless they know someone with said "QoL" (there's no such thing) edit and it's all basically a pile of crap.

The staff opened pandora's box allowing any of these things and have a very poor definition of what constitutes an "advantage".

Like I said, unpopular opinion.

Come on Astra, it's so easy to tell if a certain edit gives an advantage or not. People would not use a certain edit if it was not beneficial :P

You wouldn't suggest the idea unless you supported it. That's like someone who's against capital punishment suggesting it to cut down on crime rates, even though they don't believe in it.

An example of what? How to get RO to shut down in less than a year because legitimate players won't be able to or won't want to play anymore?

I use zoom and big card personally, one because tiny screens are for dos games and the other because of a certain mvp card that I lost out on... in hindsight :U

I can see things like Big Cards and eliminating the old Hallucination effect (still lags a $1900 gaming pc lel)

Screen shake doesn't bother me personally but I can understand how it could be irritating if you were streaming.

I've been using a vanilla client since day 1 and I started back in 2003, I think a little after the Comodo update.

I'm one of those crazy bastards that would WoE with effects on, had to see the AoE's so I wasn't overlapping SG and make sure the CP team was still SW'ed (my first two PC's did NOT like this)

Mods and Edits are all good fun, but not in a competitive environment
