Hey guys! I've played this game when it was still on CBT few years ago on Playpark's supposed to be SEA server but they decided to Region block my country even though it's from SEA so i didn't get to get into the game much. I just have a few questions about the current state of the game before i try it out.

1) How is the population of the current server?
2) Is this game newbie friendly?

3) How is the Cash Shop of the game? Do you consider it pay2win or no?
4) I thought they stopped the development of RO2 in Korea or did i misheard the news a few years ago?

5) How's the  PvP and GvG scene in this game?
6) has there been any improvement with the combat of the game? Last time i played it was very clunky like it's hard to target things.

Hello Leet1337,

thank you for coming back. I will reply to your questions one by one,

1) How is the population of the current server? Thousand of players log in every day and with the latest patch notes we expect the server population to sky rocket!  :p_laugh:  :p_laugh:

2) Is this game newbie friendly? Very, you will receive a Starter Package once you will start the game containing useful stuff: VIP, Bags, Potions, etc... Plus, once a month there's an event called "Happy Hour" during which an item called "Happy Hour Box" will drop from monsters in a range of 5 levels from yours. Those boxes sell like ice cream in summer! That's a good way to make zeny, no matter what's your level and how long you've been playing!  :p_love:

3) How is the Cash Shop of the game? Do you consider it pay2win or no? Well, as I've told you the game offers ways to make zeny! The cash shop offers to the players a wide range of items that are a bit hard to find in game (but not impossible, except a few).  :p_smile:

4) I thought they stopped the development of RO2 in Korea or did i misheard the news a few years ago? You are right! Warpportal US took over the game's development last year!  :p_omg:

5) How's the  PvP and GvG scene in this game? With the latest balance brought to the game, PvP and GvG moments have improved. There's still a long way to walk to get a more balanced metagame but Warpportal is working hard! There will be many news concerning these two aspects of the game.  :p_love:

6) has there been any improvement with the combat of the game? Last time i played it was very clunky like it's hard to target things. Why don't you come and try it yourself? The game got many improvements in the last few months!

6) has there been any improvement with the combat of the game? Last time i played it was very clunky like it's hard to target things.

Okay, here's the perspectives of a fellow "new" player (started playing at the end of March):

1): while I can't really speak about the activeness of the population because I'm 1. not quite at endgame yet and 2. from Central Europe, which disqualifies me from playing the time the largest portion of the players are playing, no matter the channel you will always meet at least a few people around the map. Gives me the feeling of a low-medium population RO server, I guess the thousands of players is exaggerated and by no means the average player base (unlike its progenitor Ragnarok Online).

2): Let's say two things about it.

First, it's relatively easy now to reach Master Level 20+ (i.e. Base level 70) with the help of quests, free VIP membership cards and EXP boosts on the weekends. It's also relatively easy to get used to the way the game works if you've played Ragnarok Online before (several Jobs and skills are +- the same and there is job level and base level as well, though job level increases by harvesting natural ressources and crafting items only, while base level offers stat points and skill points).

Secondly, there are some issues with the game being a little on the hardcore side if you don't pay for convenience (limited inventory/storage, upgrade/card fusion extremely hard without cash items due to high failure rates/RNG), taking stat resetting and skill resetting aside.

3): The cash shop is at least pay for convenience but I'd rather consider it pay to win.

The reasons are twofold:

1. There are items that allow you to jump from level 1 to 50 for both your profession and combat level, meaning you immediately reach the medium-endgame range. There are a lot of other things like storage increase and inventory increase[i.e. bags] (which are definetly necessary at a certain point because if you want to produce things, you need to store a lot of materials for them) that can be considered medium tier, but costumes with up to three Rune slots (which can increase a single stat by up to 80 points per rune) is definetly more or less pay to win.

2. Pay to win the RNG is also strong in this game, given the higher chances of breaking cards and equipment without the use of Infinium/the equivalent for cards. There's also the lucky powder that allows you to achieve multiple upgrades in one go (2-3), effectively increasing your chances to get better equip.

There also seems to be the issue of cards only going up to +5 without paying, while the stat increement of cards beyond that is exorbitant (a +10 card offers more than 200% of the base stats).

So, while many of these issues can be avoided by simply buying cash shop items/upgraded gears from the auction house, I'd still consider it more or less pay to win.

If you just play for fun like me, it shouldn't be that much of an issue, though.

4) was already answered above. Just saying that there wasn't that much content increase since Gravity dropped it, and the game is currently more or less in a meta-state between content update and rebalancing.

Unless you already played through all that content before, it's ok,though, just bear in mind that most of the base content became fairly easy once you reach Master level, while Master level content became much much harder.

5) No idea honestly. I played some PVP back in 2014 on the SEA server, and I wasn't really shaken.

Though with the introduction of Penetration cards and PVP stats via honing, it seems to have become a 1-hit K.O. festival. Don't be discouraged if you get nuked, I warned you xD

6) The combat system is quite O.K. if you play the right Classes. My Knight doesn't suffer as much from clunky targeting as my Priest does e.g., because he doesn't have to face the monsters to attack them with skills.

However, there are still a lot of issues remaining, e.g. if you attack the monster from a distance with Shield Boomerang and then try to engage into melee fight by actively running towards the monster, you'll often end up being unable to hit it with melee skills due to positioning bugs while the monster runs through you forth and back for a few seconds.

Other issues I have are e.g. that monsters at your back are blatantly ignored by the targeting system if you press the tabulator key to switch targets. Normally, pressing Tab will switch to the nearest monster, but if its to your rear, it is considered furthest away.

There is also the issue of travelling via mouse, as it's +- impossible to change the viewing angle (and thus moving direction) if you plan to utilize the right mouse button click to travel throughout the world. WASD is your only solid option for movement, and targeting without Tab is also very hard due to right click -> movement to that direction if you miss the monster sprite (way harder to target than with ROs 2D models...).

Besides that, there are many inefficient skills, so until the rebalancing starts, it's better to dig up some up-to-date info on the net/forums to not run into a corner two times like me when playing xD.

Just wanted to say that you can press both left and right click buttons at the same time to move around and it also move the camera. I usually do that to move around instead of WASD(QE). Also if you want to walk a lot you can click the wheel button and it runs to the front until you stop it with WASD or right click to go somewhere. That is usefull as you can keep runing and watch other camera angles by press+drag left click or make your char turn by press+drag right click.

As for targeting you can also use left click to target if you don't want to move there by mistake (however I agree that targeting is kinda strange in general)
