After a long road to Ranger, I finally switched last night, and was very excited to get AS. I switched from agi/dex to dex/int/vit, and went out. I quickly found out that this wasnt going to be like basically any of my other characters, as doing my own mobbing is completely impossible, and the long cooldown on AS makes any sort of sustained killing unpractical.

So, my question is, what do most people do, at least as an early Ranger, to solo with AS? Just wing, AS, and immediately wing again? Because that seems to be the only thing that somewhat works, and it is rather boring. I have around 10k HP, and that holds for about a second and a half against 5-6 mobs in Nogg road, so I basically have time to bunch them, AS, and wing out. Then I have about 4k HP left. With no reductions possible (other than the Pasana card) the Ranger seems incredibly squishy.

if you find it boring to teleport around there is also alternative to this and that is using Camouflage. Although this is dangerous and situational.

Ok, so that is just the way it is? I will just be winging to find a group, dropping an AS, and then winging again?

It just isnt quite what I was thinking when I was going for Ranger, lol. Perhaps I am too used to being able to just walk around with my GX and Mech.

High agi would actually make gathering mobs and walking around easier since you wouldn't be hitlocked everytime a mob hits you.

Perhaps, but even if I had 80 agi, my flee would just barely break 300. I would still get hit 40-80% of the time by most mobs that I will be leveling on, and that is when they are alone. It would be a huge sacrifice for still little ability to mob up. I am also not sure that my SP pool would hold out waiting for my RWH to give me back my SP.

If you're a new ranger that's fresh from 99, I recommend getting 2 of these items. http://ragi.al/item/iRO-Renewal/Uws

You will not have the bonus damage from White Wing Suit, but you will have instant cast.

This is of course based on experience. One hit from one lone monster is enough to stop you and let the rest of the mobs catch up to you. It's just way easier to run away from mobs and kite them with high agi. Also, that much agi is enough to make a difference between being able to kill or be killed by the mobs you've pulled. Ranged mobs is a different matter. I suggest go high int/dex and some agi. You won't get much from vit anyway unless you're aiming for 100 vit for stun immunity.

If u can get witch pumpkin hat + alarm mask, u can just spam pumpkin for recovery. In TIs, I normally lure some mobs and tank a little if I can't kite them but make sure to spam pumpkins. i have 80 vit and hp increase for more survivability. Agi is useless when u are gangbang by mobs since flee been reworked since renewal. Basically u need survivability as low lvl ranger. Other cheap recovery gears are Rudolf hairband, Fish in mouth or Trans Yellow candy.

I have WPH and Alarm, but need to have my RWH on for SP most of the time. But even with the WPH, I can barely keep HP up spamming as fast as I possibly can. And with this amazing wight limit of somewhere around 3200, the 500 pumpkins dont last long. (less than 10 minutes)

Incubus pet is amazing substitute for sp leeching and there is heavy lifter box that increase your weight limit by 2000. Try getting sp enchant WW boots and WW brooch. Strawberry are good sp recovery item. At lvl 106, I too have 10k+ hp but with hp increase I got up to 14k ish, Don't always immediately AS when u see any mobs. Learn to lure mobs as much as u can and learn to AS the center of the mobs to ensure everything is dead. If u can't kill them all and got a feeling u about to be killed, Just flywing away. Soloing as a ranger, u can't be cheapskate with supplies. U can always look for a party if u want to save zeny and easy lvling  :p_laugh:

Meh. Just not my cup of tea. I spoke with a few people, and all seem to agree that wing, AS, wing, and never looting are the keys to reasonable leveling, and that just isnt my idea of fun. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

If you want a Ranger that facetanks the mobs he kills, you might want to check out Fuyuki's Trap Ranger guide.

Sounds like it could be more like what you are looking for.

indeed. dont expect a glass cannon to tank. no shield, nonslotted garment (cant put deviling). or you can go thru non WW set mode.

- any armor (elemental or wild cat)
- deviling HBP or FAW
- temporal dex boots with ea enchant and lucky day
- 2x sound ampli (dont put any phen)

your damage will be lower than the typical glass cannon, but you are tanky and has instacast AS (god, i hate that skill) and able to greed after every kill.

That's the major difference between a GX & an AS Ranger. What is the level if your Ranger right now?? Maybe alternative routes could help!!
