It doesn't say on the item description. Everytime an "indestructible" equip can break they put on description that upgrade attempts are an exception.

unbreakable on all items only refers to in battle damage. On any item they can break when upgrading.

aw... well it would be completely broken if we couldn't break it. I just thought that the text was weird.
