Hey guys. I have no idea how could this happen. I bought 3 pieces of Safe to 7 certificate for head gear and I failed it from +4 to +5, and then my Cylinder is now gone, and my 3 certificates are still in my inventory.

This is my first time upgrading with a certificate. What did I do wrong?? Is it possible to get my Cylinder back? :(

Ok! Already submitted. Hopefully I can get it back. :( Which NPC should I go for, for upgrading +4 to +7 with a certificate?

That was where I refine. The NPC name Normalson. Or there's another NPC for it??

Normalson and the NPCs in each town take normal elus and do not take safe certs. They break ur gear at failed attempts.
Suhnmi takes enriched elus and upgrade at higher chances, but still breaks
You need to bring ur gear and certs to "Mighty Hammer". It won't break in case it fails at cost of 1 safe cert.
Enrich Hammer is available during event only and upgrades from +7 to +9. It takes enrich elus like Sunhmi. But instead of breaking, it will downgrade ur gear at failed attempts.

About using Normalson, if you tell the GMs you used the wrong NPC, they likely won't restore ur gear. But if you say it was ur first time and ask nicely, then maybe.

The best way is to read the dialogue carefully.

The one who doesn't take cert will mention nothing about the cert and will warn you the item may break.

You should have ask people around in game or in forum before doing it whilst you are still unsure. This is sad but considering cylinder price is not that high it wont be that heartbreaking if gm dont restore it due to your carelessness.

When +7 ing on enrich mighty hammer, he also take normal elu and a cert

fixed. can't even use enriched hammer npc unless the gear in question is already +7.

here's a break down for the new young OP homie:

Normalson: use this guy to upgrade your gear only to its safe limit. if you attempt to +5 with normalson then you risk breaking your gear, which youve already experienced. you can only use normal elu/ori.
- all armor/shoes/garments/headgear caps out at +4 for a safe limit.
- the safe limit for weapons depends on the weapon level:

  + level 1 caps out at +7
  + level 2 caps out at +6
  + level 3 caps out at +5
  + level 4 caps out at +4

Suhnmi: this guy upgrades gear with an enriched rates. the rates are like 10%?? better than using normal ori/elu. there is a break risk. there is not a degrade risk. he only accepts enriched elu/ori. this npc is useful for upgrading mass quantities of the same gear when the enriched rates increase event is out and you dont mind breaking some of them in your attempts to +10 a gear easier. be careful not to approach this npc unless your gear is already +4 or higher. this npc will eat your enriched ores if you bring him a +0 gear. wasteful!

Mighty Hammer: does various things.
-this is your cert npc. he will use normal ori/elu and safe to 7 cert and attempt to upgrade your gear. using this method, there is not a break/degrade risk, but there is still a fail risk. if it fails, it stays at the same upgrade level.
- only if you have a gear that is already +7, you can take it to this npc with HD ori/elu and attempt to upgrade it. with this method, there is not a break risk but there is a degrade risk, meaning if the gear fails then it will drop to the next lowest upgrade level (+7 becomes +6). using this method, if your gear drops below +7 and you break the chat dialogue with the npc, you cant use this feature anymore for that particular gear until you get it back to +7. for this reason, it is sensible to bring a large amount of zeny (for upgrade cost) and as many ores as you can (for ore cost). as long as you keep the chat dialogue active, then even if your gear drops below +7 you can still use HD to get it back to +7 or higher (because you're still in the chat with the npc). the rates for HD ori/elu is the same as normal ori/elu but with a "no break" feature.
- will let you use a safe to 10 cert and one hd ori/elu to attempt a gear from +9 to +10. no break, no degrade.
- will let you upgrade +10 or higher items using HD carnium/bradium. the HD ores work the same for carnium, bradium, ori, and elu all around. no break risk, but there is a degrade risk. if the gear is +10 and you are using HD ores and it fails, it will stay +10. as long as you use hd ores, it will never drop below 10.

Enriched Hammer: a special npc that makes an appearance whenever GMs succumb to whining feel like putting it in. to access this NPC you must have a gear that is already +7, just like using the HD ori/elu feature with mighty hammer. the same rules apply here. if the gear drops below +7, make sure you have plenty of ores/zeny to keep the chat dialogue alive until you get it back to +7. this npc only uses enriched ori/elu. the reason he is a special npc is because using enriched ores with hiim gives you a better chance per upgrade with a no-break feature. there is a degrade risk though. once the gear is +9, you cant use this npc anymore.

so basically people do this:
- use normalson to upgrade to +4
- use might hammer with certs option to upgrade to +7
- wait for enriched hammer to make an appearance and then upgrade to +9

and for the people that like to +10 or higher, they will either use certs, or they will use enriched hammer to get a gear to +9 and then attempt to use mighty hammer with HD ores to try and +10 something. if it fails, it only goes back to +8, in which they can go talk to enriched hammer again and get it back to +9.

how to upgrade in a nutshell^

This is false. He will upgrade using safe certificates when you choose a gear that is not +7.

coz walking to mighty hammer is too much work.
