I haven't logged in to my old character in, oh, 7 years? ish? And checking my gear and goods and everything and it appears that my Lif is Loyal? There's no way that's true. She certainly wasn't loyal when I left. Is that supposed to have happened?

Homunculus loyalty thing happened during the Share the Banquet event not too long ago.

 

All homunculus were made loyal like, two or three maintenance in a row.

You missed out though, could have evolved to homunculus S, and enjoyed the second loyal event
