The entire player base has been playing with terrible lag for nearly two weeks now. A lot of us have spent at least fifteen dollars for the VIP Package and some have spent well over that.
I understand that there are some constraints that are possibly tying your hands, but, what do you expect your players to do? If the server wasn't laggy I have no doubt we could have grown to 7 or even 8k players. This should be the #1 priority currently and there has to be solutions you can implement immediately.
The amount of lag free leveling zones currently is laughable. In fact, the majority are completely unplayable.
There is no end-game content and the majority of MvP's are currently on map servers that are so horribly laggy that killing them is fruitless and or not worth the effort. I'll list them just for the naysayers:
Drake
Orc Lord
Orc Hero
Baphomet
Maya
Mistress
Stormy Knight
Hatii
Pharaoh
Phreeoni
There may even be more than this but I haven't taken the time to check the rest. The fact is that just stepping on these maps makes me want to exit the game and not login.
I've actually lost my faith in this server after finding out the solution was to open a new server. I don't see this solving anything at all anymore. The Frigg server should have been released on steam launch, maybe then you could have caught the attention of a large population of new players, but I fear that boat has already sailed. When the only pull to the new server is that it won't be lagging(just a claim without any basis)... you're already stepping on the wrong path.
In my opinion you have three solutions:
Throw hardware at the server until the lag is fixed
Anti-Bot system ASAP
Recruit more personnel to combat bots.
I doubt the first or second will come to fruition, so why not start vetting volunteers for bot patrol? There are hundreds of players willing to do it for FREE and there are plenty of players qualified that would be willing to spend a few hours everyday to clear one to two maps. Even ten people clearing fifty bots a day (that's a lowball estimate) would make a very big difference in the lag.
The volunteers only need the ability to mute and then jail each bot. Leave the map server that Jail is located on completely alone and allow it to be as laggy as it ends up being. Even if the bots rotted for days before being banned it wouldn't make much of a difference as Bot farms can't be monitored 24/7 and if the bot is actively connected to the server, it draws very little attention.
I really can't see any downside to recruiting volunteers. Limit their power and monitor their command usage. I would put my main account on the line for the ability to clear bots as I see hundreds of obvious bots daily.
tl;dr Server is bleeding and most people can only deal with this level of lag for so long before becoming disinterested. Recruit volunteers to battle bots in the short term while we wait for more long term solutions.
