So I've only ever made one Sage for Renewal, but it was a pretty standard build of Int and Dex.  The plan was to go for auto-cast after trans, which I have made before and loved.  However I've never really crafted one in with a standard Sage.

Is it worth the effort, is there enough consistency in auto-bolt damage to warrant the build?

Fudge it...not a single response.  I'll just make one anyway.

So does anyone know if Dagger or Book would be preferable at this stage given available resources?  My guess is book for the MATK.

For Autocast it might be an idea to consider no weapon. High Aspd for high chance of casts. But I guess its not viable till we get soul linkers...

I love that build, but it only really shines with Sage's Spirit  :p_swt:

Yeah, without espiritualists, you're bound to work with some STR(which means using books). Building hindsight with no spirit is really bad, the bolts aren't reliable at all and they do very little damage.

As an example, let's say you're trying to work with the no weapon, full agi/int sage without spirit of the sage;

Your autos would be doing 1 dmg and your bolts, when they do proc, would deal 300~ each. So you can see how little damage you'd do, which is why having STR and using a good Book would be very helpfull. You could, instead, be dealing 300 dmg/hit with your refined book and 300~ on autocast bolts(Considering you're using a +MATK book). Which is not all that bad. Do keep in mind that you'll struggle with Flee rate, so using fortune sword + clips with Yoyo could be a viable option for extra survivability.

Now that's the stuff I need.  Thank you.  True until expanded jobs and/or transcendence, it won't shine as it should, but I do have access to certain gears that can make things a little easier.

Also...no dagger of counter atm for a viable crit build.  So a fortune sword would have to work for now as an alternative to books, until I can get a decent book.

I'm ok with 300~600 per cast.  I'm not so interested in other auto-cast options yet, just the skills that come with sage.

This was the build I decided to go with:

STR 35+5

AGI 75+5

VIT 40+3

INT 81+9

DEX 45+5

LUCK 17+3

Also, for a Sage, Books get an automatic +2 to ASPD, so they're always faster than bare fist.  My main concern was damage output, either going for physical damage with knives, or magical + physical with books.  I doubt I'll be able to snag a Bazerald for awhile, so Fortune would be the best option for the Perfect Dodge.

Tweaked it a bit given the only book that seems to be accessible at this time, aside from the one dropped by Elders, is the Sage's Diary.

50 base Strength now, for that extra attack speed, no luck, slightly less Vit, and a hint more dex.

So I'm curious about something:

Firewall 9, Bolts all at 8, or Frost Driver 8, bolts all at 10?

Even if I'm planning on an eventual Sage's Diary?  Even for the combined aspd bonus?  So what would you suggest instead?  Deluge or Whirlwind and study to 5?

I like it!

Hmm...Rethinking it, safetywall would provide some nice benefits when taking on large groups in certain areas, especially given my lack of Sage Spirit atm.
