This is probably a guide that most of you will find useless, but nevertheless I've found some players in clock tower who didnt know how to properly excecute it!

So I took the trouble of making this modest guide that will explain step by step how to properly paralell wall those annoying clocks, or any other non-fire resistant monster.

108firststep.gif

First Step: Aggroing them (in case they are passive like clocks).

Why use a Low Level Firebolt? Because if the enemy is very fast (like clocks are) they will eat your wall before you have time to properly place your 2nd wall, resulting in quick and painful dead.

So it goes like this:

  • place yourself in a straight line from your enemy,
  • cast a regular fire wall between you and them.
  • cast low level firebolt to iniciate the aggro.

Second Step: Parallel Wall!

  • Move one square to your side
  • Place a wall in the exact spot you were standing.
  • Cast your strongest Fire Bolt now.
  • Move One Square Down.
  • Place Fire Wall right next to you.

Important Tips!

Tip #1: Remember to move as little as possible! Meaning, one square at a time. This will save you room for places where you cannot move. As long as you have 1 square between you and the enemy, they will not hit you!

Tip #2: Cast 1 Wall, 1 Firebolt! Don't get greedy, when you are low level player, always use 1 firewall and 1 fire bolt, and then repeat the placing of your wall. Otherwise the enemy will eat your wall while you are still casting your 2nd firebolt and you will die, resulting in waste of time and energy! better be safe than sorry.

Tip #3: Align yourself properly! Enemies will always walk first towards you, and then move to the sides. This means, you must stand in the same line they are before you cast your first paralell wall!

Tip #4: Practice makes the master! Making a guide that covers all of game mechanichs would be too long and boring to read, so just experience with these few tips until you get the feeling of it!

TIp #5: Keep Calm! As a mage, panicking means death. You only have 3 walls at a time to cast, so make them count! Position yourself carefully and just then cast your walls. If you don't feel comfortable with the situation, just run away and live for another battle.

Well guys, this is all about Paralell Firewalls. If you would like to add any kind of tip or information, or if I made some mistake please let me know! hope you find this usefull :D.

waste of 52 mana, if you have a good connection to the server just wait for the clock to move and then setup a vertical firewall and lvl10 firebolt immediately

Nice little guide!

I know I ate several dozen deaths on my mage trying to get the technique down, and it can still get kinda dicey if the mob moves at the last second.

Its a lot of trial and error in time you get feeling how mobs move in relativ to you, if you master it you have a powerfull tool.

Solid description of VERTICAL firewalls.  Both types of walls you've shown are parallel to the player.. Just seems confusing to call one of them parallel and the other not.  They are vertical to your frame of reference as opposed to "normal" ones which are horizontal to your frame of reference.  Semantics aside solid guide on the power of vertical firewalls.

Ah, the good old VFW, the bread and butter of any solo mage, glad to see a guide pop up.

As far as I can remember I've heard it called vertical firewall (or VFW for short) and I made my first mage in 2005, when I think of parallel firewall I think of dropping 1 on either side of you, usually because something new spawned off to the side and you need it to not eat your face.

Also, VFW lines are probably the fastest way to kill undead monsters outside of 1-shotting them with Resurrection, just make sure you do enough damage to drop them (also, please die in a literal fire archer skeletons)
