Perhaps UW could be enabled for certain events, like week-end events or something along those lines. Like we have Super Boss events, perhaps a UW event could become a thing. I'm not too sure how the removal of the Faction System will impact that modes functionality, but it would be fun to see it periodically. Especially if the GA Group system wasn't required, or was fixed.

Union Wars is exactly the same as Akram Arena.....   (Or almost).

Because UW had one thing we don't have in any GA mode. Large scale groups of 40+ v 40+. It's total chaos and a blast in the pants.

Union Wars was a whole new level of war....there were multiple battles going on at every area of the map...it took actual coordination, a lot more than what the battles we have now takes.

 

I don't like the idea of it being just a temporary once in a while thing... I don't understand why it can't be implemented into the game again especially if it's what the overall community would love. Even update it to make it cooler than before.

For anyone that took part in PvP in Rose, and even to many of those who weren't crazy about it, Union Wars always held a place in people's hearts. Even though it took place in the same map as Akram Arena there were some features that made it more enjoyable for most people. I will say though...  Draconis Peaks probably takes more cooperation and team work,  even though Union War was more fun and exciting potentially, it was usually won through brute force more or less. 
 
Union War:
 
Pros:

  • Occurred on regular intervals every 2 hours. Because of this people knew when to join and they would start on a regular basis (during most era's of Rose).
  • Had the potential to be huge scale wars much bigger than Akram Arena, though this usually didn't happen most of the time.
  • The game was not over centralizing on having an active cleric or not as you could use food inside or also log your own cleric to buff yourself with. There was a much greater sense of 'freedom' as opposed to Akram Arena because of this.
  • If you disconnected or crashed, you would respawn back inside the battle, and retain whatever proofs or points gained.

Cons:

  • Wars were usually heavily imbalanced with the majority of the masses flocking to the side that was winning at the current hour. Though sometimes, this was one of the things that made it epic. I know I've had significantly more fun in games on the attackers side where we were disadvantaged and still lost, than most disadvantaged game arena games. 
  • Point distribution was poor and encouraged people to log leechers in to gain points, as you earned points for regardless of activity as long as the crystals were protected or destroyed depending on which side you were fighting on. Also the proof system could discourage people to continue playing if it was a lost cause as you would lose points for deaths.
  • People could use item mall buffs outside, and enter the war with a serious advantage.
  • The only pvp game mode available at the time.

Akram Arena:
 
Pros:

  • Point system favors activity and there is no benefit to idling in the match.
  • The sides are balanced in terms of numbers.
  • Scoreboard is a nice feature to keep track of statistics for the match.
  • The use of item mall enhancements are disabled leaving a more even playing field.

Cons:

  • Heavy amounts of crashing involved inside as of recently.
  • Because Akram Arena only starts when enough people queue for it, if the trend is that it won't start, no one will bother queuing and will queue for other game modes instead, thus further preventing it from even happening.
  • There is a clear advantage if one team has a support cleric or not over the other, and in any game there is a lot of burden placed on the cleric because there is no other reliable way of healing otherwise.
  • If you disconnect or crash, you lose all previous progress in regards to honor points and clusters/essence you've earned beforehand. Likewise, someone else could potentially take your spot and you may not even be able to re enter.

 

 

 

To be honest 2 of the main issues of Union War could have been addressed with the current game arena format. That is:

  • Even Distribution.
  • Point System/scoreboard (discourages leechers)

However there would be 3 other changes that would seal the deal:

  • Only allow Union War to take place at specific hours during the day, say every 4-6 hours. During this time  there would be a global announcement and Draconis Peaks and Crystal Defenders would be disabled to queue from. This would encourage people to join at the same time as opposed to 'whenever' and then never have enough people in queue to start a game because they also queued for Draconis Peaks and that starts with only 6 players.
  • Allow food to be used outside of combat, much like switching gear requires. This would take a small burden off of the support cleric but also not make skirmishes take extended amounts of time or be a complete stalemate like they could be in union wars.
  • Earn points as you participate instead of all at the end of the war to help with frustrating crashes and disconnects. Once the game ends you would still get a notice on the amount of points you earned for the war.

And lastly... we all know the crashing is a problem as well, but maybe it wouldn't be so without groups.

I agree 100% with your pros/cons Phish.

 

I think some of the fixes to bringing back UW's would be:

 

  • Don't allow people to flock to one side, maybe make it a randomizer and you get a balanced team on each side or something of that nature.
  • Make the point distribution better overall, make it so leechers get no points same as games now.
  • Make it so item mall buffs are taken off once you entered the map of UW's.
  • Make the teams balanced with the number of people by the entry crystal/signed up. Meaning if 10 people sign up, it's 5v5...if 40people sign up, 20v20...everytime.
  • Newer updated scoreboard to feature play by play statistics, game score, etc.

I hope the DEVS would listen to this one, I think this would ultimately be huge for the community bringing this back. Even change the name to Nostalgia Wars lol.
