A merchant shouldn't really be your main character if you are a new player. I'd suggest you learn how to play the game with this character and turn him into a vendslave - keep him having the highest amount of money from all your characters and, when needed, you can get your merchant to buy anything your other characters might need.
However, if you really want to have this as your main character, I'd suggest - for fast leveling - to get Mammonite Level 10 and use it on every monster. Downside is you will need A LOT of money to continuously use it, but it has 600% ATK which is a lot.
As antikv said, for Homun (and possible AFK leveling of it) put more INT in. Most of the Alchemists are Brewers, making their own potions and other things. So if you are more into fighting and aren't that into getting a Homun, go for Blacksmith.
Your VIT doesn't really have to be that high in the beginning. If you battle a lot, add DEX and STR. Maybe even AGI, if you do not have the funds to use Mammonite all the time. But VIT isn't needed until you have changed to your second job.

A good class to start with would be Thief (focus on AGI) or Archer (focus on DEX), even Mages (focusing on DEX and INT) are pretty easy. No matter what people might tell you, it's a bit tough doing a good Swordsman, especially as your first char - they require a lot of equipment and are more all-round classes which means a lot of stats have to be increased which will end up getting you imbalanced, if you focus on one skill then another.

BUT as a piece of advice~ if you want to go third class i'd say Bard class would be better~ SOOOOO much is going on with rangers its not even funny~ Then again it depends what your looking for in the class. Hunter's have more raw power and aspd compared to Bards in the beginning and bards have more party value and better sp but once you trans its debatable. Everything depends on your style of play and stats.
Either way lvling with a bow is costly in the beginning because of arrows once you get arrow crafting you shouldn't have that much troubleC:

Priests (and also Acolytes) are pretty hard to level, especially in the beginning. Being a Full Support Priest/Acolyte you have a higher chance to get into a party, which can help with leveling. But gaining the levels to finish your Joblevels and gaining helpful skills can be tricky. Battle Priests/Acolytes have the advantage of being able to defend themselves well, but they might run out of SP faster than needed.

I vote for Acolytes to have the Luna Buster Lariat.
