So I watched some gameplay of Ragnarok like 10+ years ago, and I actually quite liked it, altho for some reason I never got to play it.
Recently it popped to my head again and I really wanted to play it this time!
Anyways, I read some Mage guides so I know the basics, but once I actually started to play, it didn't felt quite right..
I couldn't find any real guidelines to what I should really be doing, so I just walked around the city talking to NPC's.
After about 20+ minutes, I realized that I barely talk to anyone, but the ones I talked had so much irrelevant info, that I feel like I am just wasting my time.

Long story short, I'd love to get some guidelines to what I should be doing  to have fun and also understand the game.

Best regards,

Itay :)

Sad to say, you'll basicaly live a solo life in RO. You can try to join some guilds that are really friendly. Parties to level actually starts mainly from lv 70 and on, in Gramps TI... Try to check for recruitment section of the forum for a guild. And people might help you and answer all (or most) of your questions regarding the game.

I'll definitely start looking for those.
Is there still a chance to get some newbie early game tips?
Do I actually need to go and talk to everyone in the city and read everything they say? :S

Already read some of the wiki explanation regarding jobs(and mage specifically), lvling and more.
I am more concern with the actual first day of gameplay. It seem like spending over an hour to talk to everyone and read everything they say is a must to get by...or is it?

Thank you both for the answers, I appreciate that (;

Hey and welcome to Ragnarok. The game can be quite confusing at times and many mechanics aren't explained well in game. Like what's been said, there are many guides and Youtube videos that you can watch to help you ease into the game.

This is one video I think someone here have made that can give you some idea as to what you can do when you are just starting:

https://www.youtube....h?v=oAsM1ct_k38

Eventually it will all make sense but if you need any help, assuming you are in Chaos server, you can send me a PM and ask me questions and I can try to help you throughout the game. Hope you have a wonderful time!

From what he says in the intro it's precisely what I was looking for(hopefully the video itself is understandable tho)! Thank you!
I am playing in Chaos and I assume your ingame name is Cellac, just like in the forum. I'll be sure to PM you if I need anything specific while playing, I appreciate that buddy!
And yeah, I do believe that with my major MMORPG experience, I'll get the hang of it with time, but the beginning just felt super awkward.. :)

The video is part of a series that he's working on I believe. It will provide you with an example of a scenario of what you can do to get you started.

If you'd like to PM me in game, you can send mail (called Rodex - accessed through one of the icons at top left) or PM my character: Alphe

I am happy to answer your question and even partner up from time to time if my time/schedule permits it =)

So I sent you a mail in-game regarding some stuff, but I wanted to get your(or anyone else's) thoughts about Dex for Mage.
If INT reduces cast time, and Dex reduces that aswell(twice as much I think?), why would you even go Dex when you can just get all into INT which is DMG + cast time reduction?
I just read in a few guides that Dex is really important for Mages, I just don't quite get why..
Thanks for all the help! :D

Hey man. I saw your email. Sorry I was AFK before so I couldn't reply to your PMs. DEX is important to assist in reducing cast time but INT is probably the primary stat you want to work almost immediately so you can be powerful enough to one hit kill things with your magic. Enemies will less likely to retaliate if they die before getting to you. The idea is that eventually you will want to work towards an instant casting Warlock and having high enough DEX is a part of that. There's a guide in the wiki about instant casting but it's a pipe dream goal as it can be expensive to acquire. Otherwise, try to reach me in game now and I can answer your questions.

Thanks!
Regarding my job advance, what if I wanna go for a Wizard?
I usually like Mages/Wizards more than Warlocks(debuffs skills?), would that be an issue? Or do you think that I'll enjoy Warlock better in this game?

For your info, your cast can be interrupted unless you used certain card or gear. If you can achieve instant cast, you dont need to use those card or gear as there is better option

I actually just realized that after dying because of it :D

Also, I just noticed that the more you take in a stat, the more it "cost", so now I get the idea behind splitting it between int and dex in a way..
I just thought why not just use it all for int, but I think I get it now^

Uhm do you already know about the job system? ALL wizards will eventually become a warlock because it is their progressing Job Class.

Mages can job change either into Wizard or Scholar.

I am a return player after 10 years, the game meta has changed a lot. I did some research and I also started pretty much from zero. I had a high wizard but I found he is not that useful in today's game meta. I highly recommend ranger or gx.
