Hi again everyone!

Back with another question! With the Talk Like A Pirate Day Event going on, everyone's been snatching up all the great Shadow Gears!

I managed to refine myself a couple of sets too!

However, my question is...

Is there a 'best' set of shadow gears for Geneticists?

(I'm mostly going to be speaking about PvM Genetics)

The big debate has been between the Physical Set vs. Kingbird Set + Power Set (This also assumes a +9 Liberation Set is already on)

Is there one that's superior damage-wise over the other? I was reading on other threads that I should use Dr. Azzy, but the calculator is super confusing to me -- so maybe someone can answer the question definitively?

Thanks in advance!

Probably situational, I'd get ranged damage increase and the liberation sets. Personally speaking, I'd default the leech set over all or mix if possible with other set parts.

Saying that, a set for all possible scenarios is your BIS

Either set that you get, the difference is only slightly marginal at best.

tldr; doesnt really matters.

I think in terms of mvp dps its Kinbird / Ancient / Safeguard / Lib shoes / Int ring / int pendant.

In terms of being practical its Malicious set / Int Accessories.

In terms of not freezing, its unfrozen set.

For garment its HP Absorption.

Mids / upper - int +1 or atk 1%.

Lower - SP Regen.

Full decked offensive purpose :

shadow elemental armor plus liberation set for easy 15-16% (10% boss, 5-6% elemental physical & Magical damage boost) physical boost

racial shadow shoes plus elemental shadow armor for easy 10 -11% magical & physical damage boost

physical and magical shadow sets for complement above sets

Hm, interesting

So a Physical Set isn't necessarily good for a Geneticist?

I suppose it is pretty marginal -- I think I'll stick with the Physical Set + Liberation/Safeguard + Dex armor (It'll give me Dex for insta-cast)

I tested damage w/ quites a few gears. This is assuming 120 base int 120 base dex 100 base str on genetic (175/60)

+12 Midas (no mettle or int)

Seraphim

Toy Syringe

Abyss / dex2dex2 flattery

+8 anemos

temp dex (RM/EA)

Temp Ring (gs)

PDM (gs)

I kept lib set on for all of testing, practically speaking I'd rather do kingbird / int accessories / malicious for almost every situation)

Lib set + Kingbird + ancient armor + 2 int accessories gave about 3-6k damage more than physical set. Pretty negligible.

the breakeven point of physical set and kingbird-ancient-intel set varies depend on your:

stats (majorly int and str)

watk & eatk

% atk modifier and racial/element/boss modifier

So, I ended up plugging in the numbers in Dr. Azzy's Damage calculator; please note that this information is true for me, and not necessarily for your Geneticist. As mentioned above, your mileage may vary depending on your stats!

It turns out that the +9 Physical Set, +9 Dexterous Shadow Armor, +9 Liberation Set is weaker than the +9 Kingbird Set, +9 Intelligence Set, +9 Liberation Set by roughly 2% for me. Confirming what BeanBean said above. And as mentioned earlier, the difference is quite small and almost not noticeable -- but for anyone who has been wondering what to use to min-max damage, that's the set did more damage for me.

That being said, Cinnamon makes a good point that every set for the situation is the BiS.

I'm personally working towards a Malicious Set since I think it's great for leveling when I'm not MVPing

Thanks for your findings. I went with a Dex, Int, liberation set. Very good for achieving insta cast easier.

If I'm just farming or leveling, I don't need a Liberation set with me -- the HP absorb is fantastic. I use a +12 EDA/ +9 Malicious Thanatos Hammer when I usually level and it's good enough. But it doesn't hurt to get full HP every time I shoot out a cannonball at a mob. Sometimes I don't get a proc, even with both those items, so it'd just be for a quality of life increase. Or, I can perhaps use another weapon/armor

how about using the elemental shadow armor instead of dexterous shadow armor?

I think this basically follows what Cinnamon said about every set being the BiS -- if you carry each element with you, then I have no doubt those would be the BiS for whatever element you're fighting against. However, I'm personally not keen on carrying around multiple sets of shadow armor to eek out a small amount of damage. But you're right though, elemental shadow armors might have a higher damage increase than just the Kingbird set would ( I assume you meant Kingbird set instead of Dexterous )

Yeah, there are very interesting combinations out there depending on what you are fighting. I mostly default dex, not, liberation on my gene at the moment though. When needed, unfreezing, spellflow, and for farming mode malicious with a than a hammer and hunter fly + eda. Amazing leech!!!
