So I can't put an item on my buy list unless I already have one atleast? Before I remember I can browse the shops and when I see an item I want being sold I can drag and drop that to my buy list.

Just click on an item, hold ctrl and left click and you will get the pop up box asking if you want to add it to your buy list.
