Before OCP's introduction, there are many classes and builds that are unable to solo, unwanted in parties, and also sucked in PVP/WOE. In order for them to overcome this adversity, they need to do at least one of these three things:
1. Buy MVP cards/Godly gears to make their chars on par with OP classes.
2. Improve skills to be top 10-20 players on the server so they can turn trash into gold.
3. Get a lot of friends who are interested in taking them as leechers for parties.
Unfortunately, none of these is achievable for a newbie, and even for veterans these are no easy task. Most ppls cant afford MVP cards/+14-15 gears, most ppls cant be the top 10-20 on this server, and most ppls dont have friends who are generous enough to provide leeching service for them.
This is why I said 'close to unplayable', its playable if you can achieve the 3 things I showed above. But for most ppls, its unplayable, period. You may argue that there are still such 'unplayable' classes and builds even now, I completely agree, but at least OCP made it better and now there are far more classes/builds that have become fun and playable thanks to OCP.
Again I am not saying that OCP is all good, and honestly the current trend of OCP is worrisome, but this is not to undermine the benefits OCP brought to us in last year when it helped with class balance, giving players more options to try the classes and builds that were once considered weak and to be avoided.
