So, I've got a Lush Rose. I would like to refine it beyond +4, but I'm afraid to break the item. My questions are:

1) How does the Monster Token refine works? 

2) When do I need to use Blacksmith Blessing, Safes, HDs, Enricheds?

Fow what I tried to learn, the token refine is complete safe, it's just a luck shot for the refine. Is that correct?

Never refined a item past +4, so I'm really newbie into this.

Refer here for specific numbers references!

 

1) You give 50 Tokens and 50k zeny to the smith in Kafra HQ in Aldebaran and he will try to upgrade you any item that is +4, +5, +6, +7, +8 or +9. If he fails, items stays exactly the same. No downgrades or breaking.

2) Different methods are used normally as follows:

• You use Certificates when going from the safe limit (refer to wiki page) up to +7.
• Enriched Ores when used normally, increase the chance of success but offer no protection from breaking, so they are usually not used this way. When Enriched Hammer is in, however, he upgrades using Enriched Ores from +7 to +9 safely (using enriched ore rates)! If he fails, the item will just degrade and you can keep trying as long as you have ores and zeny.
• Blacksmith Blessings can be used from +7 all the way to +10. He uses an HD Ore along a certain amount of BSB to try. It uses normal rates, but degrades upon failure, there's no breaking.
• Using just HD Ores works just like Enriched Hammer, but with normal rates. Almost no one uses this.

Depending on your budget and urgency to upgrade it's the methods you'll be using. Right now, make use of the Tokens as much as possible. They are pretty good. Already +10'ed many good stuff.

After all these years, it seems odd that, even though for most its hard to even get a +9 item through upgrade, there should be an eat gear way to receive a safe to +10 certificate just like the +7 certs. Still, this was a good page to remind me of whats what. It gets confusing with so many hammer guys...>,;,< *smfh *
