Is this game in it's current state too far ahead to viably come back to as a new player? Without donating or using irl money to catch up? Is it even worth it and if so which server?

Depend on how persistent are you, the more capital the faster you catch up. If you want early payback, make gene or ranger. If you want long time investment, GX,RK,Doram and warlock is fine. If you just want to be fun, support job like AB and performers are fine.

to be honest, its very difficult to come back as a brand new player without some form of currency. whether you do or dont know/remember the game, it's not impossible.. but know that Oversea's Care Packages dominate the game and they can only be obtained via cash shop or through vendors - most of which will not let brand new high class tier items go for less than 2-4b. in-game content gear is outmatched by it.

if you an older type player, than you're likely one who would (or at least, could) relate to the tough grinds. but i will say that the revamped the exp/leveling system and it's no longer that tough. getting to 175 in post renewal is easier than getting to 99 trans in pre-renewal. getting to 99 trans in post renewal can be done in mere hours, quite literally.

there are still good ways to make Z though. traditional ways that even pre-R players could relate to, like upgrading weapons with a 99/70 mastersmith. it just depends on how much time you have, as well as how much love left for the game you have.

Its possible because magic doram can level you up to max level without spending 50m zeny,

but wait because your an old player you probably lazy to level-up a magic doram tll max level.

Several consumables and cards are still in high demand in this game. If you rejoin as a new player, you must be ready to do the hard grind for in demand cards and/or consumables for a certain amount of time to build up enough $$ to build your characters with decent gears (to even play instances alone properly) if you choose not to spend any cash.

Sometimes good ETC/consumables can be looted in bulk from TI too, as many players are busy grinding with BMX to loot anything. The key is to look out for which monsters are in each week. Stuff like Elder branch are really good for example

IMO, it’s easier to just dump like 50$ once and see it as a buy to play game, and use that cash to build your char for farming in one shot. Saves a lot of time. A lot of lower tier equipment (but still good) aren’t expensive anymore as ppl prefer to use top end OCPS whenever they can
