The item doesnt need to be exactly best in slot to still be worth farming. The in between gear is still very powerful.

Saddly it's most a mentality problem that has spread across the players, to only seek for the absolute best stuff. Over the past weeks/months i was selling my storage away, and most of it were gears that could get the job done months/years ago and still very good items, but since they werent the best possible, it took forever to sell, even undercutting it at 1/5 of the price tag.

well of course it gets the job done but RO is a lot about min/maxing, there are a lot of people who rather aim for the BiS item right from the start or as soon as they can. If they already have OCP stuff they dont need to farm sub par lesser equip that gets released far later, and newbies that need these middle items arent around that much anymore.

not much to really play anyways. Just grinding the same stuff over and over. Maybe come back in a year and see if there’s new things to do

See that's the thing, where did they get that idea that they gotta get BiS right from the get go and have to buy OCP?

When I first started the items i invested my zeny into were spring rabbit cards + anti-medium shield -> 2 snowier clips and evil druid card, then bit by bit i built up from farming gramps and went to +10 crimson katar and so forth.

The thing I keep noticing is, even new players come in and think they need all the BiS on day 1, others are in other places and say there's too many bots and it's all p2w.

So, where is it coming from? (emphasizing on this)

:p_sad:

its just that its discouraging as hell when youre new to a game and you see that the BiS items cost 1-5b and 90% of them make between 500k and 2m/h even after reaching these mid tier items.

Sure they can get around with less but if getting BiS means sacrificing hundreds and hundreds of hours just to get one item (if you dont spend cash) they wont bother, even if they "can" get around with less. Imagine youd have to spend 1-2 years of your life to be able to participate in the endgame of World of warcraft, not as a twink thats getting dragged by your team with you supporting from the sidelines a bit, as an equal, noone would bother and indeed almost noone does bother. Those that do might as well go to private servers which are more convenient and less grind intensive.

Times have changed, time is more valueable these days and the competition is so much bigger than 15 years ago.

I also saw the prices and thought, "man that's discouraging." but then I thought "well I've done this before from 0 and never used any of these gears, let's see how to make it there."

Now, if you're doing WoE or PVP or BG, then yeah I don't have an argument for that. Plain and simple there's nothing to be said there. I can admit that.

PVM-Wise, which I think is what a lot of people enjoy as well (correct me if I am wrong, if you do pvp/woe/bg then I don't think it'll apply)

I spent free time playing, I work a full time job, leisurely enjoyed the game on weekends. Bit by bit I saw the features available, Eat Gear, Merry Badger, Mini VIP attainable from in-game farming, gramps and how it operated. Eve Natalia as well.

Started off with Eden gears, went with spring rabbits, moved on to snowier clips and evil druid armor, married characters on free VIP weekend, used ice creams for leveling. Leveled a lot of chars at gramps, collected a lot of loots, made safe cert, secured decent equipment, kept leveling and saving up stuff, eventually I found out about grandma boxter and i re-rolled items I got from other players who supported the server and made purchases. And I eventually got a few rares. sold and rinse and repeat (Sometimes I lost big time too lol).

not a single time did I feel frustrated because I was somehow enjoying the game despite people telling me I wouldn't be able to.

My next question is: how do you make zeny on here yourself? what is your approach.

I dont, I got rekt last year :o Spend quite some hundreds of dollars in cash shop and the rest was random finds and loot, I had okayish equipment but nothing above +9 or anything mentionable, more like you, being fine with what you can afford.

But most people arent like that, and with each generation of new games it gets less and less cuz games get more convinient.

@Netha
And that’s fine, too. You support the game and well I am sure hoping you’re enjoying what you got.

I think after playing RO for so long you just get accustomed to what you have. I find it fun, I mean even though I got my GX geared to a very high standard, I still am going back with a friend to play priest and knight all over again from 1/1 and it’s been more fun than playing a geared GX. (I’m the one playing priest lol.)

What I just wanna get at is that there’s a lot of features but there’s also a lot of convenience but what I care about te most in all this is: are you having fun? That’s really all. I also think the challenge is kinda fun (although to be fair I used to play like this ages ago so it’s probably just another RO run as usual lol)

Added video from Scuba aka IlliterateGames from Youtube!

Thanks for sharing, I don't know if you saw it yet but it looks like the CMs are looking for player feedback to address this issue you brought up in this thread.
https://forums.warpp...agnarok-online/

I linked the vid in one of my earlier posts but a lot of people seem to have the same idea. I think VIP change would go a long way.

(Obviously this is a super self-serving suggestion... but I wish content creators that create guides, and showcase their characters / adventures would be at least slightly rewarded. Not that I need it to keep making videos, but acknowledgment would be nice.)

Call me crazy but if your going to cure world hunger better start at home first. If you want to revamp VIP better start with non VIP content first, food for thought. :kis:

No it didn't. RO killed RO.

Or more accurately, Gravity and WP did. Gravity by refusing to keep us up to date, and WP by not making sure the player base was well taken care of.
