Hi! I'm a new player from some private servers. I just want to know if I need to use some VPN to make the server playable/smoother I guess. I'm currently in Southeast Asia. So, if anyone could help me would be appreciated. Also, what's the best job for me as a beginner to play? I'm thinking of RK, Genetic or Ranger. Thank you and have a good day!

Hello and welcome.

iRO servers are located in the US west coast. Depending on the latency to servers you may want to use a rerouting/lag reduction service such as Battleping. You may also try Leatrix Latency Fix (Free), however keep in mind you must only try one option at a time to not cause a conflict on your system.

Any suggestion besides Battleping? I'm very confused when using Battleping, tried it once. But the second time I used them, they don't connect the VPN for the server.

First of all I m  not IT pro so my reasoning could be utterly wrong and I m opened to be corrected on this. Just want to share my thought on it using some logical thinking.

I have doubt with such services like vpns, Leatrix, Battleping that says/promises to reduce lag in game. Because if connection is slow by itself and the distance between the server and player's computer is huge, no amount of software gonna fix that unless they can shorten the distance of the earth or somehow magically change the copper cable line to fiber glass optic all the way. Instead I think its gonna introduce lag because you're using a third party software to connect to internet which feels like some sort of gate to me. But that just me and my brain. I tried to find explanation on internet but it doesn't satisfy my doubt so...

btw I m from SEA too. also had tried the software but found it kinda the same. so I removed it and just looking forward to days fiber optic connection arrive in my area.

anyway that thing aside i hope u have fun on ro!

Battleping is the easiest I could think of. There is Mudfish but personally never had the time to experiment with.

In response to the post above, in a very simple manner, gaming proxy services reroute the connection to reach optimal performance to game servers. It will not change your ISP advertised speeds nor it should throttle the bandwidth.

With that said, It may or may not make the in-game response times better as the connection's path to server differ from one user to another. So in the case of Battleping, if that did not work as promised assuming that you have tried the available US servers and connection type then it means that either the application is not suitable, or there is an underlying issue with the connection itself. If you need further help with setting up the application send me a PM :)

In addition to that, you can give Leatrix Latency Fix a try as that requires little to no setting. If non of that helps, then check your connection to iRO and make sure it is not suffering from latency loss. A final note, kindly keep in mind, while WP does not restrict access of some connections/regions to server, users are strongly encouraged to play on their local official servers.

Well, I'm using fiber optic connection right now but I'm still lagging ingame. Used battleping once and it worked. But then after a few days it stopped detecting the game. That's why I'm trying to find some other VPN that can work with iRO. Other players from SEA don't experience this kind of lag. Idk why.

That will be my last hope, thanks. But if it doesn't work again, maybe I'll quit the game instead :(

Ah I see, thank for the explanation Cinnamod and sharing your mileage with the vpn guys. I m grown accustom to laggy playstyle and when its got to unplayable state I usually just log off instead. And yeah it is because of my internet for it is only 4mbps plan lol. Hope you found the right software to get smoother experience because your on fiber so should be a lot better. I ll try some of the program mention and see if it help but if it doesn't it still okay I think cuz I could still open 3-4 client even with my speed. Of course with enable AutoFreeCPU in ROext.
