I have some trans-2nd class experience but no third class experience at all. I am a pretty casual player interested in mostly pve, collecting stuff, solo or group leveling for zeny and rare drops, do not care much for MVP and WOE... I have a few toons left from before (hi wiz, hi priest, lord knight, hunter) and a few mil zeny as my resources... what third class would best fit my goal in game? I don't mind starting a new class - in fact i probably would prefer this to help me get re-acquainted with the game

 

Also willing to spent real money on kafra points, just need to figure out what is in demand these days

Well, why not pick your favorite/main character from before and just progress to third job from there?

Most 3rd jobs have playstyles that are quite similar to their previous jobs so it'll be easier on you to stick to something you can already handle well.

I'm not really a fan of letting gear do all the work, but if you invest your zeny in the right places, then any class can be optimal.
You can try looking around for those Anniversary community headgears which are designed mostly for making leveling 3rd jobs easier (like Shrine Maiden Hat for Archbishop, Autumn Headband for Ranger, etc.). Those were re-released through in-game means so they should hopefully not cost much in terms of zeny.
If you're getting ready to start grinding some levels to catch up then it might be best to try and get some leech/recovery gears earlier to help keep your hp and sp topped up and make leveling go faster & smoother.

You can also check out Ragial.org for an online catalog of most of the player shops you can see in-game. It's good for checkin average prices but don't rely on it too much

It should also be worth checking out irowiki.org for more information about the 3rd jobs before going forward

You have Hi Wiz , Hi Priest , Hunter , Lord Knight

 

all of them are good  

 

I suggest continue leveling Hunter to Sniper > Ranger  first

 

it's a really cheap to starting class  with below 1b budget  

 

their AOE are really powerful , easy to use    really strong compare to other class with same budget 

 

All you need is     White Wing set (Boots , Suit , Manteau , Brooch) don't care about enchant     non-enchant are very cheap    

 refine need high only Suit  because it's give extra ranged dmg per refine 

 

Elven Bow + Elven Arrow  is really good starting bow   when hit Lv. 100 

 

(Pre-Level 100 leveling / before get Arrow Storm  I suggested  Crimson Bow 2x Bow Guardians  or   Hunter Bow Bow Guardian + Hunting Arrow  leveling with Arrow Shower)

 

+0 or +9 Autumn Hairband     +0 still get insta cast Arrow Storm   ,  +9 give more Arrow Storm dmg 

 

 

rest of gear just farming Zeny to get it later   

 

 

 

 

 

if your High Priest is on other account   you can dual client with your main character   bring it for Warp , Buffs 

 

I suggest to go  hybrid ME+Support    so you can support party 

also when no party  you can solo if the TI , map have only Demon/Undead combo

 

when hit Lv.100 AB    I suggest to get  2x Valkyrie Drops    and  +0 or +9 Shrine Maiden hat

 

Shrine Maiden hat give insta cast ME  even you have 1 Dex ....  +9 increase 120% ME dmg 

 

Valk Drops give huge ME dmg boost  and  50% SP recovery per ea  so  2x Valk Drops = 1 ArchAngeling card  

also have Lv.2 Odin Power buff if learned maxed Impositio Manus    good atk/matk buff for your main chars / DPS party member 

 

rest of gear you can combine with Support gear   I suggested +7 Pilgrim shoes  and maxed Praefatio for the delay reduction effect

 

*Pilgrim Shoes  have skill requirement to unlock effect  if learned Praefatio to maxed level   it will give 60% delay reduction

combine with insta cast ME   you can destroy every Undead / Demon mobs with spammable ME carpet

 

and rest of gears depend on you     Divine Cross or Holy Stick is really cheap for starting weapon 

 

and later after your AB is Lv. 141  do Biolab4 entrance quest   get some survival , support gear to keep you alive entire run  

Biolab4 party is the best way to level up your AB to 175

 

 

 

High Wiz and Lord Knight  I suggest to level later  both of them are good meta class too

perhaps try it first with existing class you have. change all them to third class, level up a bit and get some of the third class skills and see which one you like the most. should be easy now with exp rate boosted and you can technically get battle manual buff x3 quite easily now with poring summer event. just need to find party for boss.

 

though in my personal opinion, i have to say fully decked out (read: expensive) dragon breath rk probably the coolest thing atm haha.

As I mentioned before   leveling your Hunter , High Priest first   and become Ranger , Archbishop 

 

Both are suits for  first characters    since  Ranger starting gear is very cheap but powerful compare with other class with same budget

just destroy everything with Arrow Storm  really simple    it's better than Arrow Shower that you leveling as Hunter / Sniper before

 

 

 Archbishop have better support ability (At least you don't need to heal , buff party member one by one)

 

and with introduce of Shrine Maiden , Valk Drop 

 make them easier to solo leveling or even extra AoE in the party  against specific monsters

On other classes you have 

 

High Wizard will become a Warlock (WL)

 

and Lord Knight will become Rune Knight (RK)

 

 

 

WL have better survival skill   (Drain Life , White Imprison) 

spammable DPS  (Chain Lightning ,  Soul Expansion) 

a lot of AOEs  (Crimson Rock , Jack Frost , Earth Strain , Comet)

 

most skills have faster cast time , less delay   unlike Wizard's skill which have long cast time and delay

 

with right gear  WL is the best magic class for MVPing   (While physical class have Gene , GX as top tier) 

 

 

anyway  you need some budget for this class   at least 2-3 billions Zeny

 

recommend starting  set  :   Survivor Orb  ,  +7 or +9 Survivor Manteau or Cloak of Survival ,  +7 Survivor Shoes , +10 Survivor Rod  , Magician Glove 

 

this is the cheapest set for you but still effective to leveling to 175   this set excel with  Wind , Earth , Neutral skills 

 

* compare to other gear set for different skill specific  such as   +10 Valk Knife with 4x True Katherynes  (T.KKs) 

for Crimson Rock build  is very expensive as hell.....   

 

 

recommend skill to leveling :  Earth Strain , Comet , Drain Life , Crimson Rock , Chain Lightning 

 

I suggested to get Chain Lightning when you're level 141 and complete Biolab4 entrance quest because your job in the party is killing Chen with Chain Lightning 

 

Biolab4 is a good leveling place with party   even it's require long time to recruit people....

 

 

 

 

RK have 2 recommend paths for leveling  

 

Dragon Breath or  BowlingBash+Ignition Break 

 

 

Dragon Breath is really strong AOE  but you need to invest a lot to be effective 

 

if you can afford only one 3b worth gear  and rest are cheap gear   I suggested to buy +7 Fafnir scale first 

it's feel like Half Tao + Full Tanee + Kiel  all in one 

 

rest of them just find   HP/SP gear , Ranged gear / weapon * , Delay reduction gear , HP/SP leech gear  

 

* If you can't afford Tae Goo Leon    I suggested  4x Archer Skel Mace   or   3x Archer Skel  Twin Edge Expert Archer 4 or 5 enchant  << I recommend this one if you're planning to make Geneticist (Gene)  as a Vender + Farmer   since Gene is a really good class for MVPing , farming Instances     at least you can share weapon on both class  if you're on economic budget

 

but of course if you're fully geared    DB RK is the best build  and easiest to level  including farming some basic instances 

also DB RK is the one of the most welcomed AOE in Biolab4 party.

 

 

 

 

if going Physical build  

 

I suggest to buy 2x Toy Rings  will make your Bowling Bash stronger    << I'm not kidding   before Toy Ring  I have around 8-10k Bowling Bash 

after that I can hit over 30k total damage per Bowling Bash 

 

Physical RK's AOE skill is Ignition break  but it's not a spammable skill  so you need to combo chaining between Ignition Break and Bowling Bash

also it's have a lot of pre-req skills to get it 

 

Ignition Break itself is really weak  even endow weapon with Fire element for extra damage 

 

  to be stronger  you need an expensive True Seyren cards on +10 or higher Lv.4 Weapon

(ex.  +10 Twin Edge  3x True Seyren)     and +9 Black Ribbon  (or higher than +8 Bio5 hat which require Lv. 170) 

 

so I think making Bowling Bash stronger is cheaper 

 

I recommend  2x Toy Rings   +  Twin Edge 3x Sword Guardians   or  2x Sword Guardians  Crimson Sabre or 2H Sword  Holy 

(Since Holy element is hard to endow   only way to endow is  Priest's Aspersio)

Nothing beats RG at this point. Most broken thing I ever seen without MvPs. Fun playing solo and fun playing with a party and fun playing with other RGs!
