you're more aware of schemes like this one while I knew nothing about this age-old scam. the reason I fell for it. The guy said he will refund me and he didn't do it. I thought he was really official.

Got scammed hard man. this is a lesson for me, let this be a lesson to people who are new. 

People in this game will help you out if they know that you don't know much, they will ask you to meet them in a location in-game, they will bring the fake CM_Astra and offer the same proposal they offered to me. People who are offering to help you out will set you up like what they did to me.

 

Look at the screenshots I showed you, I really lost $650 and I called paypal and seagm to report it to them.

 

Don't use that RT discord man, it's full of scammers!

I don't even think I would qualify as a good GM, I mean I'm a very honest person, but I don't know much about this game and with almost no technical skills. I mean he just came to me trying to offer this job as one of the secret GM's of this game (which I thought was real). He told me to keep this in secrecy and this why I didn't think of reporting it.

 

You wanna know what he asked me after??? He asked me how much cash I have and he told me to spend them all in gift cards (and he will probably ask me for the codes). that is when I started to get really suspicious.

So he did not give a fixed amount but let you determine the value of the supposed job scammers are smart man

Oh boy. Just a note: 

1. Warpportal only hires through actual legitimate means, which includes an interview face to face (they also hire only locally from what I recall). 

2. They will not contact you to recruit you to be a GM. The 2nd npc you talk to in order to progress through the novice grounds explicitly tells you all about this kind of scam.

3. It is very unfortunate if someone gets scammed, but there the company is not responsible for your loss. 

4. Anything that seems like it's too good to be true, probably is.

Apparently you missed the multiple times NPC's in game and notices on the game and in the forums that says GM's will NEVER ask you to buy anything or ask you for your passwords. If you got scammed, thats on you bro. They did their jobs.

There is a little dialog you answer before you enter the training grounds when you are a novice — I guess you skipped it.

Haiyang I am sorry that you had to experience this. This is actually a scam, it can evolve or change a little bit, but always remember, Warpportal staff, including RO1 staff, GM staff and forums moderators WILL NOT in any mean or form contact a user in-game to be GMs or ask them to visit discord or other job hire links.

 

I'd ask that you read our pins in regarding Item Scams, I will link it below.

As for the scam itself, if you write in to the GM staff providing the screenshots and describing what happens, then they might be able to help you out.

Lastly, I'd ask that you stick around and give the game another chance.

Remember to completely reinstall your game, the scammer may have embeded malicious files in the ones sent to you so be wary.
