I don't know much about the game, is Hunter a good first class?
If not what class would be good to start? something that can farm well, do well alone(i don't care about pvp).

Yes!! The best class for PVM, has high AOE damage, has the longest range of the game, you apply damage without taking damage. You will soon understand that the monsters are unfairly strong, so the best possible thing is that you don't take damage.
Don't be fooled by videos that show people with many buffs and high-end equipment applying absurd damage and killing monsters easily, in fact they spend more zeny than they earn (Full Cash Shop Player). In every respectable game, probably the best profession for hunting monsters is the Archer.
