Intro

Frenzy Fields are great. Probably one of the best things RO has introduced to the game. The idea that a weapon/armor drop can have random options is amazing. It allows for more flexible builds, and injects plenty of equipment into the market both for newbie and veteran players alike. Specially for newbies, gone are the days of needing carded weapons worth a few million zeny just to get started with a the game. Just find a cheap weapon with mid range atk or crit or aspd, and you're good to go until 90+. Of course certain option rolls and weapon drop tables are questionable for balance and we all know how much sp regen coats changed the lvling meta so much, but that is not the point of this thread. The point of this thread is to take what we already have and how it can be used to address other needs. What I'm proposing has two features: 1) Zeny sink  2) Trash recycling.

The needs

Inflation. Okay this one is a no-brainer. Inflation is on the rise and we've all been asking for a zeny sink. If done correctly, competitive min-maxers would soon be spending tens of millions of zeny for the perfect weapon. Risky entrepreneurs would be trying their luck to for better rolls to increase the value of their gear. Even aspiring newbies might find some cheaply vended weapon that is one reroll away from being decent.

Trash options. The shopping board is cluttered with trash gear. It's to the point that it makes searching through shopping board tedious, as if the search feature is bad enough as it is without proper filters. Again, that is a different issue and not the point of the thread. I know one man's trash is another man's treasure, but what if we can literally turn trash into treasure? At a random chance for a price, of course.

The proposal

I present to you, rerolling gear options. I got the idea from the game's original armor option Hidden Enchant. For those not familiar with it, the hidden enchant npc rerolled an armor's stat enchant to a random stat for fair price of 400k zeny. There was also a small chance that the armor would break upon failure. Long before Renewal came and gears vending for 1b became the norm in Chaos, I spent close to about 20m trying to make a +3 Dex Silk Robe. Considering I got Silk Robes for free from my guild, that means 20m or about 50 attempts trying to make that darn thing. But hey, I needed it to min-max my build. And that's just Silk Robes, richer people were doing it to Valkyrie Armors too. Did I mention there was a chance for the armor to break? Never underestimate what the rich would gamble in the name of min-maxing.

There are different ways to implement this. Below are different ideas.. Maybe we can have one of them, or two of them, or all. That's open for discussion.

Idea 1: The 3 for 1 Special

  • Consume 3 weapons of the same type and number of options and pay zeny to get 1 weapon of the same type with random options. Nothing says wow like a luk, healing boost, against ghost Composite Bow. Why those even get vended in the market is beyond me. By making it require 3 Composite Bows to be rerolled into 1 Composite Bow, it turns those gear into consumable market goods. The idea is just as people would buy Mufflers in bulk to over upgrade it to +9, people would also buy trash Composite Bows in bulk to reroll them. The cost needs to be cheap though. I personally would not pay more than 100k to reroll 3 Composite Bows into 1 because I would be better off doing a quick Orc Dungeon Run if I'm getting a completely random Composite Bow anyway.

Idea 2: Option Type Reroll

  • First select Option 1, Option 2, or Option 3. That option gets rerolled into a random one. For example, Option 3s are usually the +xx% dmg against [Element or race] type. So if you don't want that +10% dmg against Ghost, then pay to reroll it into a random element/race. This one is plain and simple. There are a lot of decent Weapons and Armors out there with only 1 bad option, or conversely with 1 perfect option. Maybe you have a Jur with Agi/Atk/Neutral and would want to reroll that atk into aspd. Or maybe you have a Pike with Int/60 Atk/Fish. The 60 atk is perfect and you want to randomly reroll the Int to Str and then randomly reroll the Fish to Neutral. Price can start at 500k and up if you ask me.

Idea 3: Option Range Reroll

  • Like idea 2, you pick which option to reroll. The difference here is you keep the same option type. Let's say a Coat has +29% SP regen, +89 Def. It's almost the perfect lvling Coat, but you just with that sp regen was a little higher. So you reroll it. Still, rerolling is random. It can turn to +21% sp regen, or +44% sp regen. The idea is it still stays as sp regen. There's a reason why +14 atk Chain Mails go for around 6m while +20 atk Chain Mails can reach 20m. Min-maxers would have a field day with this. Starting price at 1m and up is probably still cheap.

Zeny sinking price

Forum poster shirkarash gave me a smart idea of making the price values dependent on the weapon lvl. Kinda like how refining lvl 1 weapons with Phracons cost less zeny than refining lvl 4 weapons with Oridecons. Higher weapon level = more expensive to reroll. I agree with the idea. Rerolling Daggers should be cheap, while rerolling Ice Picks should cost a fortune. My only concern is not all same level weapons are created equal. A level 3 Arc Wand versus a level 3 Pole Axe should not be treated the same. Then I remembered about Socket Enchanting where items were tiered according to presumably what the Devs deemed as rare. The downside to that is it means someone at WP needs to create and keep a running updated list of what's sensibly rare and what should be cheap. On the upside, when it comes to Armors that don't have levels we can have cheaper to reroll low-tier armor and expensive to reroll high-tier armor.

In conclusion

tldr: random item options is a neat feature that RT has. It would be a great potential zeny sink to allow us to reroll our options, with some costly strings attached of course.

Disclaimer: I realize getting this idea implemented in some form is a mountain of a task. Even if it is something our folks at WP would seriously consider, it'll probably take a few months, plus half a dozen more months, plus 1 more month for good measure to implement this. The server would probably have inflated 10x worse by then. Personally, I just like to have these kinds of conversations going. It's getting tedious to only ever read about the same endless tirade week after week.

-Edit-

P. S. - Here's camp off-handedly mentioning they have the ability to reroll specific options. Did anyone who submitted a ticket actually got their stuff rerolled? I don't know. But at least it opens the possibilities of this suggestion.

Recently I'm starting to see people just ignore and leave unidentified Daggers and Chains on the ground.

Its really a good ideia.

But, its a shame they will just ignore the server like they did in Re:Start...

No idea why I didn't see this thread before, but I've been thinking about something EXACTLY like this for the past couple of weeks, and you basically hit all the points I was trying to work around.

To me the best option would be to add some NPC that ate up 3 of your weapon/gears and threw back one  piece of gear unidentified so you could basically have a "soft" rerroll (you don't get to choose anything besides the option of getting a fresh piece of gear to open up). This way you simplify the process, because I'm sure that implementing something that re-rolls your enchantments inidividually would be more time consuming to get to work properly (I mean, there are still no weapon enchants visible on crafted weapons)

I love this idea. I know of so many players that have full storage or just throw stuff on the ground because it is useless. Also the boards are full of gear that no one wants to buy
