It's not even their code. Pretty sure they got it off some random guy.

I agree with OP. They already have a 1 query per interaction limit, I don't see why showing all results would be that bad. Is the database server that bad that it can't execute basic searches?

When you make it "partial search", database cannot use indexes, because it uses "LIKE" where clause with "%" wt both ends.

Basicaly, database cannot use the index on the table and it needs to do a table scan, consuming processing time or even the machine disk reads, depending how sql server memory aloc is configured. now imagine hundreds of people quering at same time.

There are some features like full text search (its a service from mssql) that can be used, idk why is not used.

In other words:

Try to find on a dictionary all words with "ap" in the middle of the word and tell me how much time u took.

However, if you try to find all words starting with "ap" you can use the dictionary index and find it really fast, right? :)

how do i even search for a slotted cap [1] when cap is too short

Does it respect quotes for limiters? I use SQL all of the time, but idk what I can and can't do with their system.

Easy actually, Just don't click partial and type in Cap.
