I have a total of ZERO knowledge of anything about Ragnarok. I remember seeing my brother play Ragnarok when I was a little kid. It looked super fun playing with his friends and all. We even watched the anime series with CDs. Then he stopped playing because RO implemented subscription, he can't pay them because he was still in highschool. The 'Ragnarok' name still stuck to my head until this day. So anyway...

After a while now about +20 years or so, which is today, I search for Ragnarok and shocked it is still alive until today. Created new account in Transcendence, launch the game, kill some porings in training ground, hit level 10, warp to archer town because I read in forums its good to farm as an archer on 1st character. So I went ahead talked to the guildsmen. He said I need to be Base Level 9 and Job Level 10. But I'm at Base Level 12 and Job Level 10. The requirements also said need to collect trunks to 25 points. I have 18 barren, 5 fine, 12 solid trunks in my inventory. So I don't know why I can't advance to next class. I currently stuck here. I was expecting a chain tutorial quest that will lead me or hint me to go somewhere. Maybe pick up the class in academy on the main city. Currently there are no quest at all in my quest menu. I am very confused right now on what to do. Can't even ask player around town because they all AFK.

TLDR: So how does a new player(not homecoming veteran, not from other server, but new to Ragnarok Online) consume this? Where do they go? What do they need to do? Where do they pick up quest? Where are all the players aside from WTS puppets in town? Can anyone help me why am I stuck to advance class?

I think you've collected more than enough trunks already.
Have you already used up all the skill points in your Skill Window (Alt + S)?

RO doesn't really have a linear progression route if that's what you're expecting, but that's one of the good traits about it imo. You're free to adventure around and do whatever you want.

For a mostly complete list of guides, you can refer to the fan-updated wiki here:

Let me start by saying welcome to the game!

There's a lot of things to explore, mechanics to learn, places to hunt, but that will all come with time. RO is different from other rpgs as mentioned above because everything is your choice in its truest sense. There's no quest-after-quest leveling (for the most part) or "talk to this npc, then this one, then this one". You decided what to do with your time and energy. I think this is one of the things that makes this game harder for newer players, especially now, because there's not enough guidance on what your options are. Then again, that's early 2000's mmo's for you.

The best thing you can do is learn about whatever class you're trying to main and browse the forums for advice. I have a number of side characters and wouldn't mind being your leveling partner. Drop me a message anytime using the Mailing System (RODEX). It's available from the drop-down menu on under your hp, etc.

this might not be the best advice but save your jellopies and orc fangs (if you have them) People are buying up Jellopies for the poring memorial dungeon so you should be able to make some good zeny selling those.

Archer skill quests(contains items you should save as you level up)

https://irowiki.org/...her_Skill_Quest

These are the basic leveling areas.

9 to 2x - spores(east of payon) you can sell strawberries for a good amount.

2x to 4x - Bigfoots (poo hats, honey)

4x to 5x - Orcs

This might not help but  swordman -> knight is also a good easy class to hunt items and level with. Brandish spear makes leveling very easy.

Thanks for the replies. I solved the problem for my character. I've looked up on levelling areas and been following that now have Base Level 40. It said there is Eden Group that could give me some quests and beginners equips but I can't find the entry to the building. Where is it? Also last time I went to Toy Factory, the wiki said I should talk to Mr Claus but he wasn't there. Turns out I have to talk to the Kafra to teleport there. So why that happen? Do I need to level up more for things to be unlock?

Sadly there's no Eden Group at Transcendence and Mr Claus is near center of the map at Aldebaran (It's different from Chaos/Renewal)

Since you're an archer, you can try going for Greatest General, Flora, Geographer, or any other stationary monsters.

Unlike RO, RT has a unique mechanic where you still receive the full amount of xp from monsters up to 30+ levels above you. So if you can take them down relatively fast enough, you could give yourself a boost even when not going through the usual leveling route.

And since they are stationary, you won't need to worry about tanking them since you can use your range to keep yourself safe.
