Just started playing the game and im a bit taken a back by the prices in the game. How in the world are you able to get that kind of money. Im guessing people have a casual 100bil? Am i missing some secret to getting money here? 0_o

You get zeny in game by either time or money (or both).

 

Real money:

• Buy items from the Kafra Shop (i.e., cash shop) and sell to other players

 

Time:

• Create a Blacksmith character (or get Heroic Backpack) and use Greed skill to pick up loots in Gramps Turn-ins and Nogg Road (Magma Dungeon 2), then sell the loots (to NPCs or other players)
  • You can get unlimited teleport (Beelzebub Wing) with 5 Eden Merit Badges
• Level a character until it gets strong enough for you to easily farm things that you can sell to other players
  • Example: Giant Faceworm Snake Skin (from Faceworm Nest instance)
  • Each GFSS (for short) sells for 1-1.3 million zeny. You can get four per run of the instance relatively easily, or six total per run if you beat the boss at the end.

• Once you have enough zeny, you can start "investing" (buying items) and selling them (later) at higher prices
  • Example: I used to buy Elunium or Oridecon (required for upgrading equipment) for 20K and sell for 80K. Over enough time, that becomes millions of zeny
  • Occasionally someone will sell an item for cheaper than expected because they really need the zeny for another purchase. You can buy the item if you see it, then re-sell it for more than you bought it for
    • Example: In October I bought an Incubus Card for 5 million and sold it for 15 million
  • Buy a cash shop item for zeny and re-sell it weeks or months later
    • For instance, I bought a Guardian Processor for 30 million in November, and I sold it for 250 million last week. This is a limited-time cash shop item
    • Another example: I bought a Neuralizer Box for 80 million early January, and I sold it for 160 million a few weeks ago. This is an always-available cash shop item that always has demand, but no other players were selling at the time
  • Like all investments, this carries the risk that the item's value might not increase or that it might not be in demand later

• Get "lucky" and get a really expensive card to drop, then sell it
  • Example: Golden Thief Bug Card, which you can get from Golden Thief Bug in the Endless Tower instance. You can sell the card for 25 billion+
  • With the Gunslinger/Rebel class, you only need a few million zeny to get the gear needed to easily get to the floor where Golden Thief Bug is in Endless Tower and easily kill the Golden Thief Bug
  • By using multiple characters of the same class (but not simultaneously), you can do the Endless Tower multiple times in a day with the same equipment (give equipment from Character A to Character B, and so on), giving yourself more chances at getting "lucky"
• Use multiple characters simultaneously to get quest-based rewards that you can sell to other players
  • All characters logged in simultaneously join the same party, then you complete a quest. Each character in the party gets the quest rewards
  • Example: Illusion Stone (from Illusion Dungeons); Cor Core, Mysterious Component, Damaged Weapon (from Episode 17.1 Quest Line); Contaminated Magic (from Advanced Old Glast Heim)
  • Example 2: Overlook Water Dungeon
    • Good options for the final reward: Marc Card, Phen Card and, to a lesser extent, Marine Sphere Card
  • This depends on how many simultaneous game clients your computer can run before clients start closing
  • This can be done for getting the rewards from new events quickly, which can be sold for high prices during the first day or two of an event

It’s called inflation. You take 5-10 old servers merge them and their economy, and bam you get iRO.

it's what happens when multiple servers get merged together into a single one for over a decade.

And a lot of the playerbase are people that played the game for a long time and accumulated wealth(in either items/zeny/both)


Anyways, there isn't a lot left in the range of multiple billions, most things dropped down to very reasonable prices.

Indeed, just before I left last time the prices were seriously insane.

3-4x what they are right now.

 

In hindsight, should have sold everything before taking a break back then.

gear your main char via selling cash shop items then play every day so that your investment return. gear another char with that return of investment. rinse and repeat.
