I am trying to make some items for Rose. I have the idea, but i've never done 3D modeling before. Is someone savvy (and patient) enough that they could teach me how to work with 3D animation programs.

I can help with MEL scripting language. I am fail @ rendering. Which program are you using to make the 3d stuff

Insustry standard 3d stuff usually 3dsmax or maya.. You should be using those.

if you have questions about scripting i can help you after you have *exhausted all your other resources*
i do not like 3d modeling bc i suck at all-things-design (even css). it's a very steep learning curve so make sure you google and learn.

I'm interested in this too, thought i have little experience with 3d (mainly because, usualy, i draw up and down / left and right, but in 3d you have depth, so i get it worng) modeling. If i can learn stuff i some nice concepts id like to use

if anyone is using Softimage / XSI pm me for contact info (msn) and i'll be glad to help
unfortunately i dont have enough experience with max

btw there is a free version of xsi (now called softimage) so called xsi mod tool (it changed name to softimage mod tool) - you can look for it on autodesk web site

anyway no matter which program you decide to use:
1. learn basics / tools - check tutorials that you get with program you choose
2. once you know how to use basic tools (although you cant even make a good looking cube) look for specific tutorials
use google / youtube for free ones or if you want to waste some cash look for Gnomon / Digital Tutors (those are awesome)

if you know how to use some 3d program you can use tutorials from any other 3d program - it will use different names for tools and different shortcuts but you can always get the idea how to do something

Wing3D.com is the one I downloaded. I have played with it but the most i have been able to do is get a cone with a ball on top of it. Is it an okay site for a beginner? I found some websites with tutorials on it.
http://www.wings3d.com/tutorials.php
http://www.3dlessons...ings3d.com.html

Haven't looked through them yet to verify varying content.

There is a special section on the forums for 3D creations:

I am aware of that. I posted it in here because it is not showing a 3D model i created. I was asking the community for guidance. Therefore I felt it fit here better than in there.

sad truth is that most users just ignore other parts of forum
anyway, wings3d is pretty good modeling program
some of my friends are using it and it is really fast once you do some practice

and links you found are not bad at all

don't forget to check youtube

just make sure you put right keywords in search

also - check other tutorials on youtube, btw http://www.vimeo.com has lots of great tutorials and nice stuff too (and it's also free)
http://www.3dbuzz.com is also mostly free / you have to register to see some of them

and don't "run away" if there are no tutorials for specific program you use
think of it like driving a car - pretty much they are all the same - just "small" differences in design

Okay, thanks everyone! http://forums.warppo...tyle_emoticons/default/happy.gif Wish me luck!!

Side note: don't you wish the mods would sometimes take threads like this, turn it into a guide, and sticky it? It has lots of great information and it's sad to know that it will go to a different page in less than a week and won't be looked at anymore..
