Ragnarok isn't like most games.

Now that I'm where I'm at today I can say that the best choice I made was to

1. Stop grinding for levels and EXP.

2. Focus on gear and a good source of income.

Because I made that choice, I can now make a new character (any class)
and level it to Transcendent 140 in about 4 or 5 hours.

Lots of "POWER LEVEL" guides out there.. but ask yourself this..
what are you going to do at 150? By the time you hit 99, if you're not well geared you are going to struggle.. and die.. a lot. I'm making this post to get new players to focus on a different agenda.. gear & a good source of income. Stop asking "where do I level" and start asking "how".

I see many players follow the "norm". They go to one place and always have to ask "where next"?

(they end up missing out on a lot) I see players waste time looking for the "best" the "fastest". They get help from others only to end up in a situation where they can't do anything because they are out gunned by what they're up against.  This quickly leads a new player into thinking "oh this is a pay to play game" and quit . They also miss out on a lot of what this game has to offer.. ADVENTURE, RESEARCH & EXPLORATION!!

P.s. you could have spent that time gearing for areas that are faster then where you end up next.

*don't be so busy killing.. that you aren't picking up items or talking to NPC's.*

Killing two birds with one stone:

- Yes, you can earn zenny and EXP at the same time.
- I can go on and on, but this would turn into a really long post..

Make 3-4 characters - Assassin - Blacksmith - Priest *Optional* - Main -

- Assassin is probably the cheapest and easiest AoE class to play. *Grimtooth*  This is what you want to farm with until you gear something else. *You will need some SP regenerating gear.. but it's cheaper than any other early AoE class*

- Blacksmith isn't just to sell items, it's to level in different areas / level in different ways / earn more rewards from Bounty Boards, Quest & Achievements etc. (They also have the skill *greed*)

- Priest is optional, it could help you level later on when you can't find a party.

- Main is what you want to play.

- you might want to consider having all 3 on a different accounts.

Make a 2nd "Warper" account
- You will use this account later to help lvl and travel
- This account will also help earn rewards and income

First.. focus on gear for your Blacksmith / Assassin that can be utilized for any other class:

- Don't go high end gear, just make sure it transfers over.

- This is a good way to understand lower end gear and work your way up. Better than going from 0-"hero" and be put in a situation where you need 3 billion zenny to go any further.

- You just want to get "far enough". lvl 100+ or really expensive gear should be saved for your "main"

Don't level in areas that are the "best" EXP:

- Level in areas that offer more than EXP

- Progress into areas that are the best "FOR YOU". \

- Stop following what everyone else is doing.. they likely don't understand what else is out there.

- Explore the game and follow areas that drop items you want > more exp

- Hunt "every!!" bounty board / eden quest & look up quest in your level range every 10 lvls.

Would you rather..
-Wait 4 hours to find a party that nets you 50 lvls in 15 minuets?
- - or just start leveling and get 30 levels in 2 hour?
- Get to 1 character max level in 3 months and still die a lot..
- - or Get 3 - 4 characters lvl 99 in 3 months and have many things to do & places to explore with ease.
- Just because something is the "best" doesn't mean it's the best choice for YOU!

Don't NPC gear dropped from enemies

- There's a NPC in eden that can give you Safety Certs from them.

Research your Main's HIGH end gear:

- Save for it & Learn where it comes from

- Look up alternatives & Gear that you can earn on your own.

- Invest in gear specific to areas that earn the most income from.

Resources, Resources, Resources:

- Understand the main resource in Ragnarok.. farm them and gear to farm them even faster.
- Merit Badges, Battle Manuals , Safety Certs, Bubble Gum, Daily Quest Reward Gear, Instance Rewards, Stat Food, Cards, Crafting Catalyst, Ores, Quest Items, and many more.

Complete quest / instances / dungeon access quest, etc.
- There's actually a lot about Raganrok players don't know.. or don't talk about.

- you won't truly know unless you've done it yourself.

- going back to the questions "how" or 'where".. the best way to learn is by testing it on your own. there are many guides out there.. but that doesn't mean it's the best or 100% accurate.. including this one.

Your first character isn't going to be your main.. favorite or highest lvl.
- Keep that in mind.. don't rush into things and try not to rely on guides and other players.

- yes, there on are some good guides out there.. but that doesn't mean there isn't a better way.. it also doesn't mean they are telling you everything or that it's going to be cheap / easy.

I can't find any cards!!!

- make sure you pick every item up! Cards often hide directly underneath other items, I almost missed one COMPLETELY invisible because it was under a jellopy.

- Kill every monster on the map - could be superstition - but if the entire map isn't cleared.. less rare items seem to drop. *When you think about it.. it's a deterrent against botters because they often miss many areas of the map.
*I could be wrong but I can testify that clearing the entire map nets more rewards Vs Not.

If you get stuck.. do something else.
- if you're only here to level.. well.. you'll get to 140 and die.. again and again.

- if you find the joy in being lvl 40.. you'll hunt and be rewarded and the game will show you where to go.

- you might get to a spot where you think "I WISH I KNEW ABOUT THIS WHEN I WAS LVL 50!!!" well.. go back when you decide to make another character.

The 2nd time you play will always be faster.

- the first character you play is always a grind. it leave you thinking *HOW?!?!* but rest assured.. not everyone is buying into it.

- Yes, that's a really fast way to power up BUT you still miss a lot and will likely waste money at first.. know what you are doing before you do it and know that most people don't when they do.

That's all for now! Good luck!!

I will return to offer more in depth guides that offer many options for many types of players.

Well, there's no 1 rule of thumb playing RO. The point is how you run and enjoy it. You can always do your own research and ask anyone in forum/discord if there's any question/help needed. The most important thing is how do you enjoy the process of levelling and grinding YOURSELF without the need of spending real bucks into this game.  No one is racing who's the best and fastest to max level (unless WP make an event for it lol)

Honestly, i have fun playing RO until now. I didn't just only play 1 class but i made another 14 character slots because i want to have a diverse feel playing different job classes. Sadly, i play this game at slowest place with least priority because i have a life.

A very interesting guide that thinks outside the box.

I do think it highlights a problem that would scare away most newcomers though: starting the game by making a character simply to supplement your "main" character. Someone starting out simply wants to enjoy the game and not necessarily worry about all the meta bits. I completely agree about taking ones time though. Mmorpgs are best played like a marathon, not a sprint.

In most MMOs this wouldn't be needed but in iRO with everybody clearing the game solo it becomes a necessity.

hey now don't spill the secret on how i still enjoy this game

RO being an old game is kind of a blessing in disguise in a way I think it's the most "do-whatever-you-want" sandbox MMO out there. No boring mandatory levelling/lore progression quests compared to most mmos I've tried and dropped. Though I acknowledge this would suck for newbies younger than the game itself.

I've found joy selling mundane trash like a busy trader. Sometimes I'm a hairstyle supplier, sometimes I sell catering (food buffs). :heh:
