running my first toon through R and cant decide between the two im at 49 and only one level away. power tank or healing tank, not sure which has the better set up. was hoping for some thoughts and advice. if you got nothing nice to say view and move on.

Commander = great DPS, hard to level up, good tank but you will have to choose or share between a tanking set and a DPS set. Good at pvp when it reach high level (74)

Protector = not a good DPS, Hard to level, and is not good at pvp but in Pve is the best class for tanking, since your job is take damage, you just need to focus on your HP, Defense and resistance.

Indeed, Protectors are the best tanks since they are truly designed for this task. Their offensive capabilities are limited, so they are not very fast in solo mode and they will need company to level at a good pace. They are masters of defence and using the shield, they have decent healing powers (still), although not the OP ones they used to have before. They can have the highest defence and HPs, if properly equipped, and their part is to stand in the front line keeping a safe distance between the opponents and the rest of the party (true meatshields).

Commanders can funsction as tanks too. But, usually, they arent 100% effective in this as a Protector would be. Still they can handle the task with success, with the proper build and gear. On the other hand... Commanders can be killing machines, with pretty impressive melee DPS, well impressive for 1-handed weapon users. From the melee classes, they are the best in soloing and can level at a decent rate. For this they will need a balance between good defence and good DPS capacity. When they get stun immunity from Adamant Mind at lvl 74 they can be almost unstoppable and perform well in battlefields too.
