I've seen several posts on this, so I thought it might be good to have streamlined thread with some solutions seeing as how this error hasn't been properly addressed yet.
Question 1: Why can't I read the book like normal in Juno to Rebirth?
Answer: The game now goes by GGH (Gravity Game Hub's) version, meaning there's a silly side-quest you must do. Unless you want to drop the 1250000 zeny, you must hunt for a lost book (rideword sprite) 1 map south of Juno. Defeat it, go back and speak to the npc in the northern building, and you can read the book as usual.
Question 2: Why won't the npc let me change into a High Swordsman/Merch/Aco/Archer/etc?
The quest appears bugged. Normally you can just talk to the job change npc for the appropriate class, but it seems like it flags being a High Novice as already taken a class. Here's 2 solutions I've found that worked.
Solution 1. Simply level your BASE and JOB to lvl 10. Go back to the Academy npc. You'll be told the same nonsense, then speak to the O.G. Job Change npc in the appropriate town. They'll change you to the next class.
Solution 2. Talk to the Criatura Staff in Izlude at the front desk. On occasion, they've acted as though I've never been there before, and I'll get treated like a normal novice (they even gave me a free level!). Speak to the job change npcs upstairs, then go to the O.G. Job Changers if they don't change you. (Once as a swordie they changed me right away).
I hope this helps anyone who ended up as baffled as I was.
